If you ride an ATV, snowmobile, etc.., or you have an electronic device - you need to take action to reserve the right to have those items repaired at the place of your choice. The plan of Polaris, Arctic Cat, Catepillar, Apple, and other large manufacturers is to lock out consumers from ever being able to repair their products themselves. They want the whole pie basically. They want to sell you their products and then ensure that they are the only entity that can repair them. AND they will control the cost.
For a few years now there has been an effort to stop this from happening, but these companies have enormous budgets and contribute millions to politicians. What you can do is email or call your state legislators and tell them they should support the “Right to Repair” bill that is going to be voted on soon. Without pressure from actual constituents, these politicians will take the large contributions over doing what’s right for the working class people of MN.
This is important. So take the 5 minutes to reach out to these politicians and hold them accountable. Here’s a sample email you can cut and paste to your legislators. PLEASE share this.
Dear Representative:
As a constituent of yours, I strongly support the Digital Fair Repair Bill language traveling in HF4608 (Omnibus Judiciary/Public Safety Bill). It gives me the choice of where and when I can get my electronics fixed, it helps small businesses not lose critical work time, it helps the local farmer get their equipment back on-line faster, it helps students get their laptops fixed without delays to their academics and it also reduces electronics in the waste stream. This bill will not violate or compromise companies’ data security, it will not create any consumer safety issues and it will not undercut equipment manufacturers or their suppliers. This is a pro-consumer and pro-business bill. Please support it – thank you!”
