🥳it's my 27th bday 💝do you think Selena would like this song? 👀 for so long, i loved from a place of proving myself. i'd shrink to fit, people-please, ignore my own needs. my nervous system was ALWAYS activated waiting for abandonment, performing worthiness, mistaking intensity for love.
therapy, somatic work, breathwork, sound healing... i was rewiring my entire relationship to safety. learning that love shouldn't require me to disappear.
that being safe means feeling held, not controlled. that i ca be loved & be whole.
my boyfriend has LOVES selena.
like, truly loves her. & one day i thought: what if there's a part two to "i could fall in love"?
what if Selena sung a song to her lover from a place of secure attachment, not hiding?
i started by recording my vocals over the original instrumental.
so i built the entire production around my vocals. strings that swell when i finally claim my own safety. R&B drums grounding me like heartbeats. spanish woven throughout honoring my heritage, selena, & parts of me that refused to be erased.
there's this moment in the song where i sing about all the sleepless nights, the fairytales i made up, the tears i cried... but then i belt:
"BUT THEY OPENED UP MY HEART IN DIVINE TIME."
that's the whole journey. the pain wasn't wasted. it cracked me open. it taught me what safety actually feels like. & now when i sing "i am safe" it's an embodiment.
this song is for anyone who's done the inner work. who's learned to regulate their own nervous system. who knows their worth isn't dependent on being chosen. who understands that real romantic q***r love is co-regulation, not completion.
it's for healers, therapy girlies g**s dolls kens & theys, rewiring attachment styles & decolonizing their hearts. it's for the selena lovers. for the spanglish speakers. for anyone learning to come home to themselves.

🐣will you grieve your old self to resurrect & bloom anew?

i’m asking because in gnosticism, the resurrection of Jesus isn’t about rising from a tomb, it’s about the sun rising again after the "death" and dark of winter ☀️ recognizing itself as divine light, breaking free from the illusion of separation.

this spring, i AM that sun. dressed in blooms by ! 🌸

as a q***r neurodivergent hypersensitive artist i spent 1000 sleepless nights reading between the lines of fairytales i made up in my mind from a single look, tone shift or word from loved ones. constructing love stories where i disappeared. where safe meant small. where being chosen meant being consumed whole.

but something shifted... ALL THOSE TEARS... they opened my heart in divine time. and now i’m learning what it means to love myself the way i’ve always loved others - completely, tenderly, even when fear has you frozen and fawning at 2 am alone in your room.

because safety isn’t external rescue. it’s the recognition that you were never separate from your own divinity. ✨

this is what my song “safe (aquí contigo)” (out May 1) is about. the blooming that happens when you stop abandoning yourself to be chosen. 🌸 the cosmic resurrection when you realize: the love you’ve been seeking was always yours to give yourself first. 🌅
