How come I'm not getting any calls on my resume...there must be something wrong with it! Maybe not...In today's job market there are many more candidates than there are jobs. If you don't apply to a job as soon as its posted the recruiter may never get to your resume. My suggestion would be to set up at job agents that notify you as soon as a new job is listed, then you can apply much quicker.

Do I need a cover letter? The answer is yes....but....keep it short and to the point. Recruiters get so many resumes today that they wont spend a lot of time reading a cover letter. A lot of recruiters may just go to your resume. Try to address it to a specific person as that will have more of an impact to the reader and they will know you took the time to find out who to write it to.

How important is the resume format? Not as important as you may think. Most recruiters only care about 1 thing when looking at your resume...the content. I'm not saying the format isn't important but recruiters are very busy and their eyes go right to your experience. Your responsibilities and accomplishments are what's goint to get you a call for an interview, not how pretty it looks.

Are resume "keywords" important? The answer is YES. When recruiters search for candidate resumes, using the numerous job boards that are available, they will typically search by "keywords". Use as many industry recognized terms in your resume as possible to get your resume the best exposure.

Should your resume be 1 or 2 pages? There are a lot of different views surrounding this topic. My recommendation is if you are just out of school or starting out in your career that you keep it to 1 page. Mid to Senior level professionals should absolutley have 2 pages. If your resume is written well, you should never need more than 2 pages.

Is your resume current? It's a smart idea to always have your resume up to date. You never know when a new opportunity will arise and you will want to be ready to share it. I also recommend updating your resume as you accomplish new things or have added responsibility in your position. It's fresh and easier to remember in the moment then trying to look back later.
