Behind every Musit Studio build is a high-precision CAD model. This fanned-fret, scalloped fretboard wasn't just "cut"—it was engineered.

By modeling every variable—from the multiscale geometry to the depth of the scalloping—we can verify the string path and ergonomics digitally before the CNC ever touches wood.

Here’s a look at a custom Musit Studio neck sitting in its machining jig. By using custom-built sleds and CAD-driven paths, we ensure that every neck profile is carved to the exact thousandth of an inch.

At Musit Studio, we bridge the gap between digital engineering and local craftsmanship. To introduce what we offer, we’re sharing a look at a recent build that highlights our specific approach to instrument design—a 7-string, hollow body Star.

This project was engineered to maximize both the tonal and physical range of the instrument, utilizing several custom technical features:

Materials & Origin: All wood for this build was sourced locally here in Ashe County. The construction features a book-matched Curly Maple top and back on a hollow body frame, paired with a Maple neck and a reversed headstock.

Extended Geometry: The neck features 31 scalloped frets, designed through custom CAD modeling to ensure the upper-register access is functional and ergonomic. To support this extended range and neck stability, we utilized a double truss rod system.

Components & Electronics: The instrument is equipped with a floating bridge and two hot-wound humbucking pickups managed by a custom-built wiring harness.

The Finish: To maintain the natural feel of the local maple, the entire instrument is finished with tung oil.

This build serves as a starting point for the type of work we do—taking complex digital concepts and executing them with the high-quality materials found in our own backyard.
