I combine graphic design and illustration, creating playful and expressive communication for creative, visionary and purpose-driven types. My heart lights up when I'm creating brand identities, illustrations, publications, art direction, event campaigns, packaging and lettering for people curious about crafting visual language that's an embodiment of their ideas and values. I love working alongsid

e those of us who are big dreamers, courageously shooting for the stars, those who are driven by their mission, brimming with ideas and a desire to grow, those who are passionate about our culture and social fabric. I'm talking about the ones of us who are daring, irreverent, imaginative, deep-thinking, and — maybe — just maybe, a little bit crazy. For fifteen years I've been making things alongside such people and brands, including triple j, the ABC, Adelaide Women & Children's Hospital, Frankie Magazine, ReachOut.com, The Mushroom Group and MusicNSW. I'm currently exploring the sea-change life, and work, mostly remotely, from my studio — in Bermagui — on the south coast of NSW, Australia. I also very much love returning to collaborate with people in Sydney — my second-home city. Aside from running an independent practice, most days you’ll find me guilty of doing introvert-like things: making illustrative side projects and art, filling up Evernote with lofty plans, devouring books, music and the ocean air, building my indoor plant-jungle and garden with my cute-as-rescue-dog Mollie by my side, or escaping to adventures along this stunning, remote coastline and other far-off, lovely places in the world.

I think this might be one of my favourite emails, ever… 💕

“Dear Nat, your illustrated maps of Pambula and Bermagui have just arrived here at the State Library. They are so beautiful, everyone in the office has been admiring them. Even the handwritten label on the postage tube was a work of art… We have a collection of over 180,000 maps here at the Library and are really excited to now be adding these two.”

😭✨ Still pinching myself!

These maps began as a personal project — drawn slowly over many afternoons, capturing the places I love most on the Sapphire Coast. I had no idea back then what they would open up… commercial projects, new collectors, published in a Victionary book of illustrated maps, and now, a home in the State Library of NSW’s permanent collection.

It’s the most beautiful reminder that when you create something from your authenticity, from the things that light you up, it truly lands differently…

Just a heads up that these maps are still available as giclée prints in my online shop. If you’ve been wanting a little piece of the Sapphire Coast to hang on your wall, you can find them in my online shop: https://madebynatcarroll.etsy.com

New in the shop! ✳︎ An illustrated companion to the beautiful Pambula (Thaua Country) 🌸🏄🦘

I’d only always ever passed through Pambula. But this year, I fell in love when we did a close-by-staycation airbnb-style on the beach. With it’s crystal clear river that meets the sea in waves, miles of white sand and red rocks, and quiet coastal vintage charm, ooof, it got me 🧡 What’s your favourite thing to do there? I love love the Jiguma walking track. And anything from Wild Ryes!

Available in A2, A3 and A4 prints. Find your sapphire coastal oasis on the link in my bio — ☺️

Ten years ago, almost to the day I was timidly sitting down at my new desk on the other side of the world. I was both anxious and excited by the enormity of the decision I'd made — taking a giant leap of faith in moving from Australia to The Netherlands for new love, and deciding, instead of finding a job in a country where I didn't speak the language, I'd build a remote business, instead.
Everything would work itself out, right?!
I'm not gonna lie friends, there's been some pretty down-and-out moments. Where I've almost given in. Felt completely undeserving and lagging behind in life. Drained accounts and extended draughts. I'm sure I've made every business mistake in the playbook. In those times though, I've literally clinged to these words from Marie Forleo – "Everything is figure-outable" — and have found my courage again and again.
Despite the uncertainties of this creative life, the universe has also unlocked some unreal treasures on my path.
It was after I started working in my own business that I felt truely in love with what I do. Unearthing and expressing people's stories and ideas is an adventure I'm always drawing energy and a deep connection from.
It's also taught me to believe in and back myself, to courageously own my voice and style, and that surprisingly, I'm capable of making this business work, despite being a shy, introverted soul.
Most of all I wanted to say to everyone who has hired, empowered and recommended me along the way, I'm forever, thankful — x 1 million! — you've bestowed me the courage to stay the course, ten years on.
This anniversary has me thinking about doors opening and wholeheartedly saying, YES ⚡️ To shaking s**t up, friends! To feeling and letting go of fear, diving in, and doing it anyway.
What's in your next 10? ✨ To answer that, go check out this brilliant writing exercise I stumbled on, listening to an interview on Tim Ferriss’ podcast with design superstar Debbie Millman a while ago: https://yourtenyearplan.com/
Much love x Nat
P.S. In case you were wondering, the love I moved across oceans for is now eleven years in 💗 I couldn't have done this without the amazing Sats Kramer by my side x 😍

We had to take Mollie to the vet this morning. One of her nails had split into two 😨 After an anxiety-ridden visit where we both had to hold her down with our combined strengths while the vet ripped it off, she’s completely forgotten all about the traumatic experience. Five minutes later and she’s back on her feet, leaping and bounding about, completely carefree. I just love that she shows me resilience, even if she doesn’t mean to… 🐕💗
