Shopify VS Magento - Ten reasons why I prefer Magento more for custom requirements.
1. I can own magento, inclusive of frontend and backend end files. With Shopify the max you can own is the template and you have no right over the database. As you pay on a monthly system therefore you never get the files.
2. If you want your store to have unique features and need customization to the functionality then it is better to prefer Magento because the Shopify apps are going to get costly for you.
3. Magento will need to bleed you for every small change in the site, you can custom build the modules that you need if you hire a Magento expert.
4. If you are looking for multi stores then Magento is great, you can set up one at no additional cost, and takes a few minutes to create one.
5. The investment is one-time in Magento so if you plan and build the site accordingly then you don't have to pay monthly for every additional features
6. You have a larger community base to share ideas and thoughts.
7. I do like Shopify when you want to get things going fast, it is a sleek application and looks great, but if you have the time then you should consider Magento.
8. Magento gives more freedom for speed optimizer, as they can access each and every file to optimize the speed which is not possible in Shopify.
9. You can get e-commerce features with WordPress and WIX as well, but if you want real hardcore e-commerce features then Magento is the taker.
10. Optimum server, the right developer, and the right action plan are all that you need to build a Magento website.

Do you want to hide the directories structure and files of your wordpress application to have better security then?

If yes then simple paste this one line code in the top of your .htaccess files availble in the root of your wordpress files.

Options -Indexes

That should do the tick and no spammer or hacker will be able to see or access your website backend files.

How many of us just install extensions because they are FREE?

Many do that, and there are side effects to it:

1. They eat away your bandwidth, they cause serous security issues
2 Free extensions become paid extensions in few months so you end up paying your developer in getting it uninstalled and fixing things if it broke anything while uninstalling.

So guys think before you ask your developer to get a free extension installed for you. I am not saying all free extensions are bad, I am just saying check their history before getting it installed that's all and install the ad dons only if you need them. Applications like magento are already heavyweight so why put some more weight on it? With wordpress it is OK, but again consider everything like security loopholes etc,

How much of blogging and forums are needed to be there on the website?

Everybody owns a facebook account and they know how to post and share their content with the friends, so I don't think a eCommerce or content driven website will make much benefit by having these?

How important is back ordering feature in a eCommerce website, do you think that it should be applicable for a option as well, meaning color and size?

If option is out of stock should the parent product too go out of stock?

which payment methods do you think work best on eCommerce websites?

1) Cash on delivery?
2) Credit card?

I guess in India cash on delivery is doing good, but what about overseas, how many websites have you seen having this option?I don't think westerners use cash much so it is no good for them!

What is more important when you are planning a marketplace website?

1. Responsive template, which loads fast and well in mobile, tablets and in all the browsers of your desktop.
2. Good marketplace module, which allows vendors to decide their own shipping method/
3. Allows admin to keep commission per product, per category as well.
4. More importantly the module's code should be easy to modify, you shouldn't pay a hefty sum on the customization of the module. So check the hourly rates of customization before choosing a module
5. Magento needs a well optimized server to load fast so choosing a good server will save you lots of heartburn.
6. Dokan and other prestashop modules are around BUT I am not big fan of them as there are not many accessory modules for them
7. I will choose magento any day for a marketplace multi vendor website.

Everybody is running after multi vendor bandwagon so what are you picking up? cminds, webkul or unirgy for your magento ecommerce marketplace website?

Every plugin has its own plus and minus, the suitability depends on the requirement, so I invite you guys to be the judge for the mix and match!

Each plugin comes with several other accessory plugins to fill up your requirement more.

So technically who is making more money? the plugin vendors or the owners who are purchasing these plugins and enrolling the vendors?

1/3 rd shopping may happen in mobiles but the truth is that the customer is browsing on mobile more and then completing the order via desktop for various reasons like easy navigation etc.. so technically the count that should be measured is what percentage views their website via mobile? This as per google stats is 65%. It is alarming figure so we need to shape up fast!!!
