現階段頭戴式 VR 裝置的連接平台主要分成 3 大類: 透過高階電腦運作; 連結自家遊戲主機或以手機為平台。前二者裝置價格較高, 另再需花一筆不算便宜的費用升級電腦才能達致如期效果。 第三類以手機為平台, 入手門檻低, 只需將用家的手機直接安裝,就可以體驗。

多間國際大廠亦關注有關問題, 如: Samsung, Google, Oculus因而在使用說明書上明確列明不適合13歲或以下兒童使用。Sony – Play Station 亦於今年3月軟件更新中亦提出基於健康及安全, VR頭戴式顯示器不適合12歲或以下兒童使用。HTC的Vive甚至更苛刻,認為兒童禁止使用該類設備。於敎育網報導, 眼科專科譚德祐醫生應為,VR眼鏡除了導致眼乾及肌肉疲勞,更可能影響兒童眼部發展。譚德祐醫生指出,暫時未有研究指出VR眼鏡的長遠影響,但可肯定有三大方面的缺點︰近、光、假。「第一個問題是『近』,理想的視物距離約一隻手臂的長度,但VR眼鏡是將手機放在距眼球約6厘米的位置,起用老花鏡片來放大屏幕;兒童長期近距離看戲或打機,可過早形成深近視,比同齡人士更快出現視網膜脫落、青光鏡、白內障及黃斑點病變等。」第二弊病是「光」,VR眼鏡隔絕外界光線,令影片光芒加劇,譚德祐醫生表示長期讓眼睛接受強光刺激,可形成黃斑點病變,令影像變形、模糊或中央出現盲點。「第三是『假』,我們看由遠至近的東西而有距離感,全因眼球的睫狀肌收縮,令晶片變厚,聚焦在近距離的景象;但VR眼鏡的距離效果是欺騙眼睛而營造出來的,除下眼鏡後雙眼未能適應真實世界,可導致作嘔、暈眩及無法聚焦等。」兒童的問題就更嚴重,他們的視力發育未臻完成,如果經常使用VR眼鏡,便難以建立距離感及立體感,影響日常生活之餘,成長後亦不能從事須視力良好的工作如飛機師及警察等。

除了各大國際廠商推出VR頭戴式顯示器之外, 坊間亦有不少價錢較平產品選擇, 可惜品質參差不齊。 根據報導, 國內關注環保和健康的VR廠商仍然很少, 大部分VR從業者依然對潛在的隱患置若罔聞。由於升級硬件設計尤其是改變顯示屏技術的週期較長,成本較大,在VR沒有被大規模、長時間使用的環境下,很多廠商不願意費時費力地去解決有關問題。
