Proposal of 'Camulod Union - Colchester Museum Village' for the old Queen Street bus station site.

Based on the assertion that Colchester Castle would be more lucrative and prestigious as a multi-functional (private/ticketed) events venue, and the Museum of Colchester would be best relocated to the old Queen Street bus station site, next to Firstsite (the Banana) and Berryfield, Behind Queen's Street and the city wall.

The 'Camulod Union' would house the museum's collection and displays over seven distinct gallery structures, identifying distinct phases of Colchester's heritage. The architecture would be a distillation of Colchester, in form, fusion and construction. The gallery structures would be faithful architectural representations of the phases of the Colchester history they house. The phases I've chosen to highlight are Celtic, Roman, Medieval, Norman, Siege, Modern and Future.

The design seeds itself (jumps off) from the feature of "St Botolph's" bastion in the city wall, to which a scaled circus is aligned, as a linger space. The design grew to the confines of the site, which there is a northern taper, that leads well to the '(canon)ball and rise' motif that has been used around Colchester. Most notably atop the tram power posts (of late Victorian Colchester). The 'ball and rise' motif, for me, epitomises the irrepressible nature of Colchester, laid to ruins on multiple occasions in our nation's history, and rouse again from the ashes. In this design the cannonball of the Siege rains down on Colchester's Norman, Medieval and Roman heritage.

Over the site are small commercial units, for pop-up ventures and more established traders. These units of distinct periods will jostle each other, like the real Colchester has. The route from Queen's Street has a ruinous folly of arch and colonnade to impose structure and access to the greater site, aligning retail units behind. Over the site there are many considered vistas, confined and also long.

Spread out over the site there are covered spaces to linger and enjoy refreshments purchased from the site's traders. There is a vista and walk-through to Berryfield under the golden splendour of the Banana. An access bastion and side amenities will link the site to the near, western corner of Priory Street car park, employing a lift as well as stairs to raise visitors up to the ground level of the site.

The gallery spaces would be over multiple floors and private museum space for storage, conservation and preparation would be subterranean, while administrative spaces would be above the galleries. As Colchester Borough Council own both sites, there is no perceived conflict in ownership (I believe). Profits from the Colchester Castle venue could be transfered to provide free entry to Camulod Union's galleries, essentially the value of these organisations are for the greater prosperity of Colchester. I consider the local architects HAT Projects as suited for potential project, with their demonstration of understanding, comprehension and contemporisation of our architectural heritage.

The name 'Camulod Union' is a pun with the Celtic 'Camulodunon' name for the Colchester fortification, and I'm always in need of fortification ;)

Introduction

‘Nexusism’ is the eternal victory and will change the course of history.

The network has existed from the dawn of the universe, building structure and enabling processes, with an ever increasing complexity. This has constructed a rich and diverse matrix, which intern has given us life and our own complexity.

Now our complexity is creating it's own complexity, this can only be recursive.

The entirety of the network is beyond our comprehension, and all we ever do is lay our ‘nexus’ upon our present matrix. The network expands far beyond us, all we ever experience is from the matrix that surrounds us and our connections, our nexus.

An individual's nexus I'd argue is their primary source of wealth, from which all other wealth are derived, whether the wealth be sales, social, employment and/or subsistence. Being connected to the right knowledge, skills, experience, research and community, generates a formidable nexus.

All is one network, as individuals we are aware of linked fragments, our nexus, of what exists in our matrix. Nexusism has been created as a theological/philosophic thesis to use these nexus to define and value existence.

The main premise of nexusism is that ‘nexus’ will supersede capital as a system of value, creating and phasing in a relational economy, alongside the incumbent transactional economy. Creating a further reaching structure, than has thus far been created by capital and market.

Nexusism aims to supersede the ‘theology’ of individualism, and the philosophies of postmodernism, neoliberalism and capitalism, building upon the postcapitalism. open*sm and networkism discourses.

It is easy to focus on our nexus and detach ourselves from the whole, but the whole is incomplete without you. Our very existence is under threat and we are in crisis. The paths we have chosen have lead us to a increasing sense of impending doom. For centuries (if not millennia) sensitive souls have warned us, but our addictions are too strong and our lives too short.

We can compete, argue, fight, oppress, dominate and even exterminate, and yet we are all the same essentially, sharing and rooted in an essential similarity that is nevertheless expressed in different ways. We are all the same, expressed in different ways.

Nexusism is a framework and emerging roadmap of political, social, technological and economic development upon the post-capitalist critique and the Free and Open Revolution (FOR), open*sm. The FOR and open*sm has inevitably and irresistibly emerged, evolved and grown underneath and within the global dominance of neoliberal capitalism, with digital networks brought about by participatory technologies, like the internet. Postcapitalist thinking is rooted in the information effect (information driving prices towards zero) and the prospects of automation creating a workless future, creating the need for an economy based on something more than transactions.

The FOR has created indispensable marketless spaces within capitalism, most distinctively in Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) such as Linux, Apache and OpenOffice, but essentially it creates an whole ecosystem of tools where an application is constructed on the periphery with greater ease. Along with other sharings, such as wikis (fast, free and open collaboration) including Wikipedia, Git and OpenStreetMap. Also there are a multitude of marketless local community initiatives. All these sharings enrich and further community tools and resources.

There are millions of content providers on the internet that are economically marginalised on their chosen platform. Information desires to be free, a new value system is required.

The FOR is a benign alternative to capitalist modes of production, providing desired cost savings and contributes to the approach of zero marginal cost, part of the information effect. The FOR does not aim to damn and destroy capitalism, but entertains and continues to feed it, albeit adhering to the old adage "there's no such thing as a free lunch".

Any value system needs to be greater and more sophisticated than a simple 'popularity contest', going further than key figures, to the whole team, and to all underlying and supporting things. With the defining of nexus, these can be woven together to generate the bigger picture, and value can be derived from this big picture of the network. For any ideology to create such a paradigm shift, the ingredients that it accentuates within it's new combinations have to exist prior to its birth. For nexusism these ingredients do.

Nexusism I see is a coping strategy for the death of the modern world, with it's immovable stagnant ideologies of neoliberal capitalism and post-modernism. Heralding the dawn of the 'nex' world.
