A few years ago, Memorial Day meant a long weekend.
An extra day off.
A barbecue.
A sale.
Then I heard someone explain it differently.
Memorial Day isn't about those who served.
It's about those who didn't come home.
The people who left behind unfinished conversations, empty chairs at dinner tables, and families who still carry their memory years later.
That's a different kind of sacrifice.
Today, before the burgers hit the grill and before we rush into another busy week, it's worth taking a moment to remember that our ordinary freedoms were purchased at an extraordinary cost.
Somebody missed all the Memorial Days that came after theirs.
We haven't.
That's worth remembering.
