#5043 – A Simple Chip Breaker Macro Example

How can a single Fanuc system variable make your macro smarter?

In this example, #5043 (Absolute Z Position) is used to monitor the tool's live Z position during drilling. When the programmed depth is reached, the macro performs a chip-breaking retract before automatically continuing the drilling cycle.

It's a simple example, but it demonstrates the power of using live system variables to create intelligent, reusable CNC macros.

In this video, I demonstrate how Fanuc System Variables can identify the active tool, access the correct geometry offset, and automatically write the tool height offset. The same routine can even be aliased to a custom G-code or M-code, creating your own automated tool setting cycle.
