I am sharing a post from ten years ago. Computer Skills for Africa was in full swing and we were privileged to assist in the development at Manguzi Education Centre. In the pictures you will find the facilitator Nicholas Nhlanhla Mbele. He became an assessor for ISETT SETA and later on opened his own computer training centre, Strive Technology Solution. I can not be more proud of what this man has achieved. I will also share his recent letter.

Teachers are unique!
Teachers possess a unique value due to their ability to influence and shape the lives of students, impacting their personal and academic development. They act as mentors, role models, and inspirations, fostering critical thinking, and promoting lifelong learning.

1. Shaping the Future:
• Teachers play a crucial role in shaping the future by preparing students for success in academics, careers, and life.
• • They foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which are essential for navigating the complexities of the modern world.

2. Mentoring and Guiding:
• Teachers act as mentors, guiding students through their educational journey and providing support and encouragement.
• They help students develop their potential, build confidence, and overcome challenges.

3. Inspiring and Motivating:
• Teachers inspire and motivate students by sharing their passion for their subject and creating engaging learning experiences.
• They encourage curiosity, a love of learning, and a desire to make a difference in the world.

4. Fostering a Positive Learning Environment:
• Teachers create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and valued.
• They encourage collaboration, active participation, and a sense of belonging.
5. Adaptability and Individualized Learning:
• Teachers are adaptable and can tailor their teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of their students.
• • They recognize that each student learns differently and provides individualized support to help them succeed.

6. Lifelong Learning:
• Teachers are lifelong learners themselves, constantly updating their knowledge and skills to stay current with the latest research and teaching methods.
• They encourage students to embrace lifelong learning and develop a curiosity for new ideas.
In essence, teachers are more than just instructors; they are mentors, role models, and inspirations who play a vital role in shaping the lives of their students and the future of society.

*I asked AI this question:*
Do we still need to teach computer skills now that there is Al?
And I got this answer:
Yes, we still need to teach computer skills, even with the rise of Al, as Al literacy and critical thinking skills are crucial for navigating a world increasingly reliant on technology, rather than replacing human skills.
Here's why teaching computer skills remains vital:
Al Literacy:
Understanding how Al works, its limitations, and its potential applications is becoming increasingly important for success in various fields.
Critical Thinking: Al can assist with tasks, but humans must still be able to critically evaluate information, solve problems, and make ethical decisions, which are skills that Al cannot replicate.
Adaptability:
The rapid evolution of technology, including Al, means that individuals need to be able to adapt and learn new skills throughout their lives, and computer skills are foundational for this.
Ethical Use of Al:
Teaching students how to use Al responsibly and ethically is crucial, as Al can be used for both positive and negative purposes.
Beyond Automation:
While Al can automate certain tasks, it won't replace the need for human creativity, empathy, and complex problem-solving skills.
Al is a Tool:
Al should be seen as a tool to augment human capabilities, not replace them, and understanding how to use it effectively requires computer skills.
Future Workforce:
Many jobs will require some level of computer literacy and the ability to work with Al tools, so preparing students for the future workforce requires teaching these skills.
Personal Enrichment:
Computer skills can open up opportunities for personal growth, creativity, and exploration, regardless of career path.
Al can't replace the human touch:
Teachers bring empathy, creativity, and a personal touch to learning that no Al can replicate.

How clever is that!??
