Our own Google review link did not work for weeks, and we did not notice.

Someone had typed a lowercase l where it should be a capital I. In most fonts you cannot tell them apart. Every request landed on the Google home page instead of the review box.

Before you send your link to a single customer, open it on your phone and check it lands on the review box for your business. Then ask real customers who really used you, and never pay for or swap reviews.

Three questions to ask any agency before they run your Google Ads:

- Is your fee a percentage of my ad spend? (Then you earn more when I spend more.)
- Whose name is the ad account in? (It should be yours, so you can leave with your data.)
- How will you count my leads? (Forms and calls both, tracked on the server, so ad blockers do not hide them.)

Open your Google Business Profile, go to Performance, then Searches, and read the list of terms people used to find you.

On our own profile the top searches were building names and our brand. Nothing about IT support. That told us what to fix first: the categories, the services list and what we post about.

If your list is full of your own name, Google knows who you are but not what you sell. If it is full of service words, the profile is working. It takes five minutes and costs nothing.

Competitors show on Google Maps and you don't? Before you pay anyone, check three things yourself in ten minutes.

1. Is the profile verified, and is your main category the thing you actually sell? A wrong main category is the most common reason a profile never shows for the right search.
2. Does your business name, address and phone number read exactly the same on the profile, your website and the UAE directories? Small differences make Google less sure it is one business.
3. Does your website say where you work and what you do in plain text, not only in an image?

If all three are fine and you still don't show, the gap is usually reviews and how the profile describes your services. That is the part we tune.
