The infrastructure the whole world relies on turned out to be fragile: one mistake is enough — and a chain reaction instantly goes far beyond a single company.

✅ Cloudflare — an internal configuration error took down part of the global internet: ChatGPT, X, Spotify, and thousands of services were unavailable.

✅ Iberia — a data breach due to a hack of a contractor. Hackers claim 77 GB of stolen documents and customer data. The company suffered only because it depended on an external system.

✅ Logitech — the use of a zero-day vulnerability in third-party software led to a leak of almost 2 TB of internal data.

✅ Cox Enterprises and other companies — hackers exploited a vulnerability in Oracle EBS, and because of this all organizations working on this system were affected.

The conclusion is obvious: centralized systems cannot withstand the scale of the modern world.

💻 How one forgotten server caused a data leak

Hackers from the ShinyHunters group gained access to an outdated cloud system of a third-party provider of Checkout.com. The system had not been used for a long time, but important documentation remained inside. Having active access to this abandoned system allowed the attackers to get inside and affect part of the client base.

⚠️ This case once again highlights the main risk of centralized clouds: one forgotten server becomes an entry point for an attack.
