So, your app is finally live. Congratulations!
Now comes the most critical question: Is it actually working?
It’s easy to get distracted by "Vanity Metrics" like total downloads. But to build a sustainable product, you need to dig deeper into how users are actually interacting with your software.
The "Big Five" Metrics to Watch in Month One:1. Retention Rate (Day 1, Day 7, Day 30):Downloads are a marketing success; retention is a product success.
If users open your app once and never return, you have a "leaky bucket" problem.
Day 1 retention is often the best indicator of your app's first impression.
2. Conversion Rate (CR):Are users completing the "Core Action"?
Whether it’s signing up, making a purchase, or finishing a tutorial—monitoring where users drop off in your funnel is essential for optimization.
3. Churn Rate:The flip side of retention. High churn usually points to a gap between your marketing promises and the actual user experience. Identifying when people leave helps you fix the "why."
4. Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) vs. LTV:How much are you spending to get a user, and how much value do they bring over time?
If your $CAC$ is higher than your Lifetime Value (LTV), your business model needs a pivot.
5. Crash Rate & ANR (App Not Responding):Technical health is a metric, too. Even the best UI won't save an app that crashes. Aim for a "crash-free session" rate of 99% or higher. The Golden Rule of AnalyticsData doesn't tell you everything, but it tells you where to look.
Use numbers to find the "What," then use user interviews to find the "Why."
