Born in the UAE in 1996, Akshay Gidwani began his education and schooling in an O – level system for the first five years, and spent his secondary years in the Indian CBSE Education system. He completed his Bachelors of Engineering (Hons.) (Mechanical) degree from BITS Pilani Dubai Campus with the 2014 – 2018 batch, securing a Distinction after 4 years of consecutive scholarship and a Director's Bronze medal across all the streams for best academic performance. As a Masters of Science Student (Mechanical Engineering) postgraduate from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) Singapore with a Dissertation in 3-D printing for Building and Construction, he came back to Dubai in pursuit of further job opportunities. This was the same year when the Covid pandemic created difficulties in finding jobs worldwide.
While interested in ultimately securing a full-time employment opportunity, Akshay was first keen on exploring new fields and horizons to broaden his breadth of knowledge. He undertook some Data Science Courses to gain experience in a new area, and participated in his first hackathon in collaboration with Middlesex University Insights Lab (Dubai) where he came amongst the finalist teams. It was this experience that helped him bag an internship opportunity with Reckitt Benckiser Arabia, where he managed to work with the Information Systems Division on one of their new projects. He previously interned with companies of the likes of Siemens Building Technologies, Larsen and Toubro, KPMG, and Eros Group, getting a wide exposure to many areas like Energy Management, IT processes, sales, marketing, strategy, and even a brief stint in HR.

While exploring technical areas and taking up roles on Student Welfare (during his masters), Akshay participated in various activities that involved being the keyboardist in a band, performing a live rendition at Esplanade (Singapore) of one of his own compositions, and being a member of the NTU Karate Club, where he designed the new club logo. He has also been a member of Toastmasters, and a contributor to the college Editorial board.

Akshay’s second main interest has always been in playing the piano, which he has pursued for sixteen years. His first composition featured in the ending theme of a film that featured on Netflix. Moreover, he now has a small-scale YouTube channel on the side, on which he regularly uploads his compositions. In order to supplement his music channel, he took up a KHDA Accredited course in Digital Marketing to further keep his doorways to music open.

Currently, Akshay Gidwani is interning with the 3D Printing Team of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Research and Development Centre, where he is involved in the development of new algorithms. His main passion has always been closer to the technical side; while he seeks to remain spontaneous in life and embrace new experiences by perennially keeping in touch with his musical side!

Shreea D Mehra joined BITS Pilani Dubai Campus for her under-graduation in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2014. During her 2nd year of engineering, she felt that she needed to widen her horizons and explore various career paths. Practice School (PS) 1 in 2016 was the turning point in her professional journey and steered her towards a career in management. This internship opportunity provided by BITS Pilani exposed her to the corporate world for the first time. She noticed that technical competence alone was not the recipe for a cohesive team and successful organisation; instead, people must also be motivated, productive and collaborative. She understood the importance of a strong central and strategic human resources team for enhanced organisational performance.
With this new realisation, Shreea decided that for her to understand human resource management better, she had to take up more internships and be more active in the corporate environment. She secured internships in and in HR departments to learn more and also make a decision with respect to her career choices. These internships reaffirmed to her that her calling was in revolutionising the field of human resources.
Shreea knew that the next step in her journey would be to pursue a in for her to gain the practical and theoretical knowledge to enable her to work in the field. After applying to a few universities, she narrowed in on Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin as it is among the top 0.6% business schools in the world, the Masters in HRM at TCD is among the best worldwide and the programme is also aligned with the three largest bodies globally.
During her Masters in , Shreea identified that she wanted to build a career HR Analytics as she was keen on applying her analytic, numeric and reasoning skills to generate data-based inputs that would improve and optimise HR processes and enhance organisational performance and productivity.
Following her Masters, she returned back to . The job-hunt was particularly challenging for her but she got her first breakthrough when she landed an internship in the HR department at flydubai. Shreea started off this internship by working on several exciting HR projects aimed at developing and optimising overall corporate success. She soon identified gaps in the use of HR and employee data and realised that the department had to become data-driven for decision-making. With the support of her manager, Shreea set up an HR Analytics framework and produced advanced reports, dashboards, analysis and visualisations that enabled the team to make data-driven decisions. This way Shreea gained meaningful experience and also created an opportunity for herself to find a place in the field she was passionate about.
All this while, the -19 pandemic crippled the economy and job market making it very difficult for Shreea to even land an interview for a permanent job. But she persevered on and, through a networking event before the pandemic, she met an individual who would later join an Abu Dhabi based and Cloud Computing , at a senior position. Through networking and referrals, Shreea was considered for a position as an HR Analyst there and eventually bagged the role after clearing the interview.
As all good things take time, Shreea finally found her path in and a job she enjoys, through her myriad experiences over the last 5 years.

Pulkit Born into a family of academicians, He pursued undergrads from BITS Pilani in Computer Science Engineering (class of 2017). During his undergrads (2015), he has exposed to entrepreneurship especially hackathons and new venture creation. He saw quite a few of his classmates starting their ventures while others who were equally capable were not able to develop their startups.

He started looking for Ph.D. options in the field and he realized with my background in engineering it’ll be impossible to get into Ph.D. directly in the field of strategy. He started looking for graduate courses in Management. After spending weeks(2016) into research, he realized MiM is the best course for him. However, He did realize very few top(traditional) schools were offering it and it seemed like a European phenomenon. While he was researching about B-Schools two schools that stood out for him were Wharton and INSEAD but unfortunately, none of them were offering MiM in 2017.

Most of the top-ranked schools in FT ranking were in Europe. He prepped 3 weeks(30 hours) for GMAT and scored a decent 700. He realized MiM courses are professional courses and not research- oriented courses. Given my background in engineering and not management and his dream of pursuing Ph.D. He had to go for a flexible and long course (not a 10-month course). This helped him in shortlisting the list for MiM. He was just targeting the top 8 from the FT rankings. His two criteria ruled out LBS, St Gallen, and the Spanish schools for him. He finally zeroed down to 3 French schools HEC, ESSEC, and ESCP.
ESSEC became my top priority for 3 reasons.
• The primary reason being the apprenticeship contract that ESSEC offers, a student can graduate debt-free as his/her studies are sponsored by a company.

• The second reason being the exchange programs offered by ESSEC for MiM students is second to none. ESSEC has Kellogg, Duke, Cornell, Booth, etc. as its exchange partners.

• The third reason being the flexibility that ESSEC offered, you can take any course on any of its campuses. You can come to schools 2 days a week, you can work 3 days a week or you can take a trimester off for an internship or any of such combinations. He finally chose ESSEC over other French schools despite being given no scholarship by ESSEC.

In Aug 2019, he went to Duke for my exchange and took courses in VC that further strengthen my interest in entrepreneurship. By Jan 2020, he had a shortlist of schools and he wanted to apply to, INSEAD and Wharton were the top priorities as they are the best schools for entrepreneurship research and VC. he started applying for research internships. After MiM he started looking for Ph.D. program and the first, admit came and it was from his dream School INSEAD with a fully-funded Ph.D. and stipend. As soon as he received admission from INSEAD he withdrew applications from all other schools as he had promised INSEAD during the interview that if given an offer I’ll surely join INSEAD and INSEAD is the best school for entrepreneurship and VC research. This was his journey from a tier 3 town in India to INSEAD.
