Weekly Wine and Whiskey news

1. Château Angelus has marked the 2022 vintage, its 240th anniversary and the year it entered a new era under Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, with a specially designed bottle for the “majestic” vintage.

Exactly ten years on from the now iconic black and gold bottle for the 2012 vintage, the bottle for the 2022 vintage once again adopts the tradition of the jeweller’s craft, with a complex technical process enabling real gold (20 carat) and mother-of-pearl to be literally printed onto the glass.

2. Having outperformed the broader Bordeaux market, wines from the “well-made, well-priced” 2014 vintage are “a natural target for drinkers and collectors”.

The best performers since En Primeur have been Château Lafite, Mouton Rothschild and Pichon Lalande, which have all roughly doubled in price.

3. The Glenlivet is selling an exclusive 50-year-old single malt collection via a new blockchain-enabled marketplace.

Twelve bottles will be released each priced at €40,000 (£34,000) plus VAT.

The Glenlivet used AI to create unique labels for each of the 12 bottles in the collection, which will go on sale on 21st February.

Why Fine Wines are a great investment?

Two words - demand & supply

Supply is very scarce for fine wines. This scarcity is both created by humans and by nature.

“Scarcity by design”- Fine wine needs more than science. "There is a limit to the humans who are capable of doing it. It's the artistic touch." So, even though the quality of wines improves over time, the volume of production of top wines does not grow.

“Scarcity by nature” - Over the past five years, for instance, production in most of the top-producing regions in the world has stabilised or diminished because of climate change. That scarcity is also caused by winemakers occupying most of the right "terroir" (soil) which is good for growing great wines.

Demand on the other hand is consistently growing with more people looking into wines as both investment mode and a luxurious product.

Growing numbers of people “with money” coming from Asia, South America and even Middle East are getting more into wines, the area previously dominated by Europeans and Americans
