Kavalo Studio is part of SiTi Lights — When city lights stop selling and start telling.

“SiTi Lights” aims to focus the attention on graphic design as a form of art and creative expression, freeing it from the commercial framework in which it is often confined. Three freelance designers will be given the opportunity to create artistic works without being forced to follow the rigid guidelines of clients. This creative freedom will allow them to better express their vision and unique style. In this way, over a 10-day period, three city lights in Tirana will be transformed into works of urban art, challenging traditional advertising formats and offering a chance to reimagine these public spaces and the community that experiences them.

This book is the result of the four-year mandate of the Italian Ambassador to Albania, Fabrizio Bucci. All photographs featured in the publication were taken with his iPhone 11. Seventy-two kilometers—the shortest distance between the Italian and Albanian shores—defines the spatial and temporal perimeter of the visual traces captured in these pages.

The two short literary excerpts included are from Chronicle in Stone and Mornings in the Café Rostand by Ismail Kadare.

Practice Space for Criticism
in collaboration with HFBK Hamburg

In the age of great vanity where the gym is the environment that serves the appearance (surface) how can we use it to exercise the muscle that commands all the organs of our body (the brain) to process critical thinking in a society with a marked crisis of democracy. The content of some historical texts which are read collectively (together with some young people) about civil courage is “digested” through several stations which require specific physical/psychological exercises in a time where local institutions are spending millions of euros for entertainment on the occasion of the “Tirana European Youth Capital 2022”.
