Rugby taught me more about leadership than any business book ever did.
Real leadership doesn’t show up when conditions are ideal.
It shows up when you’re tired, under pressure, and exposed.
When:
-the plan breaks
-the team looks at you for answers
-you’re hurting—but stepping back isn’t an option
That’s when leadership starts.
On the rugby field, getting hit is part of the game.
You don’t get to pause.
You reset, communicate, and move the team forward.
Business isn’t physical, but the impact is just as real.
Bad decisions cost trust.
Hesitation costs momentum.
Ego costs teams.
Titles don’t prepare you for that moment.
Experience does.
If you’ve only led from comfort,
you’ve only practiced theory.
PS: That’s me in my last competitive rugby match a few years back - the Austrian 2nd Division final (Linz vs. Wiener Neustadt).
