Zine Matters: Self-Publishing from Prague to Vienna is curated by Deniz Beser (Director of Fanzineist Vienna Art Book & Zine Fair, artist and self-publisher); and Frantisek Kast (Co-director of PhaseBook: Art Book & Zine Fair Prague, Graphic Designer and co-founder of Page Five Art Bookstore). The conceptual framework of the exhibition was shaped by the Czech printing house Quatro Print, Beşer and Kast's desire to establish a bridge between Austria and Czech Republic through fanzines, and together they took the initiative and focused on contemporary zine production in these countries.

Supported by: Quatro Print (Jasmina Jakusova and Bronislava Kralova), Fanzineist Vienna Art Book & Zine Fair, PhaseBook: Art Book & Zine Fair Prague and Page Five Art Book Store

Jan Schiefermair: ‘’Photo exhibitions are nice, but usually they are a sh*tload of work, expensive and don‘t last very long. I found out that for me personally, making Zines in small but quality editions is a really good way to present my work and also to work of my archive in smaller and separated series. It feels really free to do these Zines. Its faster, there is more outcome and nothing has to act „serious“ or has to be explained, the pictures can tell the storys by themselves.

I enjoy working on projects together with other photographers and also help them to publish their own stuf. Its all handmade, we have full control over everything and it just feels good to hold something in your hands.
That’s just a few of the reasons I decided to start trustinzines in 2019.’’

Nina Buchner, born 1988 in Wiener Neustadt lives and works in Vienna. She started self-publishing her comics in 2015. Buchners protagonists are often anthropomorphic animals (Slug, Remembery) or fruit (KUNG FRUIT), who have to deal with the dullness of everyday life, but also face absurd-existential scenarios. Over the years, she took part in several exhibitions and zine festivals such at UKMUKFUKK Budapest and Next Comic Linz. In 2019 she had a Solo Exhibition at Jan Arnold Gallery/MQ Vienna which featured steel.etches of her Comic KUNG FRUIT. Her latest Comic REMEMBERY is currently available at Kabinett Passage MQ.
