“In the beginning, it was all Black and White” - Maureen O’Hara
I like this quote because it’s really helpful when it comes to creating logos.
Why is it so important to start with Black and White?
It’s like making your own furniture. You start by building the form, strengthening the joints and making sure it’s stable enough before you apply the final coatings.
It’s the same process when creating logos. This will help you focus more on the overall form and balance of the logo. How many times did you find yourself frustrated because of fussing over which colours to use? How much time have you wasted in choosing the perfect shades for your logo that just looked so bad when shrunk down to a thumbnail size?
Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing more exciting than adding colours to your logo! It will just be easier for you to add and adjust colours once you have your base artwork ready. Most likely you will also need a Black and White version of the logo (Stamps, Invoices, Embroidery, etc.) so save heaps of time and create in Black and White first.
