Another one in for repair.

This machine has seen better days — damaged and worn ports, physical damage around the chassis, and a few things that definitely need attention before it can go back into service.

Another little electronic repair on the bench.
This one came in as a compact wireless remote that wasn't behaving properly.

Once opened up, it was a surprisingly interesting little PCB — microcontroller, RF circuitry, crystal oscillator, coin-cell power supply and a built-in loop antenna all packed into a tiny enclosure.
These little boards are a good example of just how much technology can fit into something that looks like a simple remote control.

We've been testing the circuitry, checking the power supply and tracking down the fault at component level rather than simply replacing the entire unit.

Another piece of Apple hardware getting some attention.

This older Apple Time Capsule came in for troubleshooting. These units were fantastic little network storage devices in their day, combining Wi-Fi, networking and automatic backup in one box.

Older technology can still be worth saving, especially when it contains important data or is part of an existing setup.

This internet problem turned out to be the network setup.

Powerline adapters can be useful in the right situation, but they can also make troubleshooting an absolute nightmare — especially when they're plugged into power boards and sharing a circuit with who-knows-what.

We traced the setup, found the issue and got things working again.

These Nichicon MUSE bipolar electrolytic capacitors are being checked as part of the fault-finding process, along with the surrounding circuitry.

We don’t just replace parts and hope for the best — we diagnose the fault properly and make sure the underlying issue is addressed.

When your Wi-Fi feels slow, the numbers tell the story.

Another network we’ve had the pleasure of tuning up.

This connection is pulling 52.15 Mbps down and 18.31 Mbps up, with a 15 ms idle ping — perfectly respectable for the service available at the property.

But the interesting numbers are the loaded latency:

88 ms during download
18 ms during upload

That’s the sort of thing that can make a connection feel sluggish when someone else in the house starts streaming, downloading, gaming or uploading.

It’s not always about getting the biggest possible download speed. A good network should also respond quickly and consistently while the connection is actually being used.

At Revolt IT & Appliance Repair, we look beyond the headline speed and diagnose the network as a whole — Wi-Fi coverage, latency, congestion, router configuration and the devices actually using it.

52 Mbps can be a perfectly good internet connection. A poorly configured network can make it feel terrible.

Another vintage Denon back on the bench

There’s something special about working on equipment like this.

This beautiful vintage Denon precision audio component/pre-main amplifier has come into the Revolt workshop for some attention. Solid construction, substantial weight, proper ventilation and a front panel that was clearly designed in an era when manufacturers expected their equipment to still be working decades later.

The fault is on the right audio channel, producing unwanted noise even with the volume turned down, so we’re working through the signal path to isolate the cause rather than simply throwing parts at it.

Vintage audio repair is a different kind of electronics work. It’s about understanding how the circuit was designed, testing methodically and preserving as much of the original equipment as possible.
