When choosing a new turntable, a lot of people lean towards the Audio Technica. These look like the old skool Technics, but in reality, they aren't the best deck that you can buy around the $400 - $700 price point.
If you are in the market for a new turntable, or looking to upgrade an existing, you should definitely consider the Pioneer PLX500.
The Pioneer PLX500 is produced by CEC, it is heavier, with a better, height adjustable tone arm. The quality of the platter is far superior to the AT. Being a direct drive with Quartz lock setting, you can be sure your music is playing in time, and with the clarity that the artist intended.
Cheaper belt driven decks tend to play out of time, as the band stretches, the tempo of the music fades. If you have a belt driven AT deck with tempo controls, you can correct this, but it's a constant issue. If you have a belt driven TT without tempo controls and notice the music is playing out of time, the only way to correct this is to purchase a new belt.
