Which would you choose, a cupboard full of little Bobby bears or one giant one? 🪻 🧸

🍜 A generous serve can become an expensive serve pretty quickly.

This is especially problematic when staff are serving from habit instead of a measured standard.

One thing worth asking is whether management is actually keeping an eye on portion sizes, especially with items like chips, sides, and protein. A little extra here and there might not feel like much in the moment, but over a week it can make a real difference to your margin.

Portion control is NOT about cutting people short. It IS about making sure the same dish leaves the kitchen with the same plate cost every time, that’s what protects your profit.

If your venue is known for generous portions, make sure the price and food cost support that.

“That can’t be right, where’s the money?”

🏦 Accounting profit is not the same as cash in the bank.

Your reports may show your business made money but cash may already be tied up in BAS, payroll, supplier payments, stock, loan repayments, or customers who have not paid you yet.

You need to separate what is profit, what is committed, what is tax, and what is genuinely available to use. Once that becomes clear, decisions get a lot easier.

This is what we help establish in business so they can see how much money they have to spend, and how much they get to keep. If your bank account tells a different story to your reports, let’s sort it out.

The NK team’s fur babies are always ready to hit the road, especially when the venue is dog friendly 🐾

There are Facebook groups all over Australia dedicated to dog friendly cafes, restaurants, pubs, and places to visit, and we’re in plenty of them ourselves. People actively look for venues where their dogs are welcome.

For a business, that opens the door to:

more word of mouth
more repeat visits
longer stays
another reason for people to choose your venue

A dog bowl out the front, space to sit comfortably, and staff who welcome dogs properly can go a long way.
