We don’t hate antivirus software. We hate antivirus software that behaves suspiciously like the problem it claims to solve. Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro and similar security suites often promise complete protection, with VPN, identity monitoring, and cloud backups included.

Good security should work quietly in the background. It should protect your computer without frightening you, selling to you or taking control of it.

That stylish OLED laptop may look like a bargain - until the screen cracks and the repair takes weeks because parts aren't available.

For business use, common business-grade models by Dell, HP and Lenovo are usually easier to repair, quicker to return to service and cheaper over their lifetime.

Buy with the longevity in mind, not just the specs or price.

Why flashy laptops can cost businesses more in downtime and repairs - and why standard standard business models win

The biggest risk to your privacy is not always a giant data breach or a sophisticated hacker. Often, it is a rushed decision, a reused password, an unexpected phone call, or sharing something with the wrong person.

Scammers do not need to know everything about you. A few leaked details and the right story can be enough to make a fake bank alert, delivery message or payment request look convincing.

Privacy problems are not always caused by complicated hacking. In many real cases, the weak point is a person being rushed, trusting the wrong call or email, reusing a password, or sharing more information than necessary. Our article explains the practical habits that make a real difference: pause,....

A car model. A familiar number. One old password used everywhere.

Last week, we saw several customers hacked because their passwords were based on details from their own lives — easy to remember, but also easy for criminals and automated password tools to guess.

If one reused password leaks from a small website, attackers can try it against your email, Facebook, Microsoft account and more. Your email is especially important: it is often the reset key for everything else.

Last week we had several customers come in after their accounts had been hacked. Not because some evil KGB agent was targetting them specifically. No, it happens easier than that. In most cases, the starting point is much more ordinary: a password that felt personal and memorable but was also fairly...

Microsoft has quietly given Windows 10 users another year before the security-update tap is finally turned off. Windows 10 officially reached the end of normal support on 14 October 2025. Microsoft had originally offered Extended Security Updates until October 2026 and it's now been extended to 2027.

However, the additional year should be treated as planning time rather than permission to forget about the problem until October 2027. An older computer may benefit from a proper tune-up, removal of unnecessary startup software, installation of updates, internal cleaning or an upgrade.

You may have noticed that laptop are getting more expensive and worse. With RAM and SSD prices rising, budget Windows laptops are barely enough to run Windows 11 without testing your patience. Before buying the cheapest machine on the shelf, check what is actually inside it, because a “bargain” laptop can become expensive very quickly.

Getting flooded with spam emails?

Blocking every sender usually doesn’t work, and clicking “unsubscribe” on obvious spam can make things worse. The better approach is to mark junk as spam, avoid suspicious links and attachments, and train your email filter properly.

If your inbox is already a mess, we can help clean it up, check your email settings, improve filtering, and secure your account.

The short answer - you can't. But you can stop letting them ruin your day. Email was designed so that anyone who knows your address can send you a message.

Should you update your computer drivers?

Usually, only if something is broken.

Windows Update handles most driver updates by itself. If you do need a specific driver, get it from the computer or hardware manufacturer, not from random “driver updater” tools claiming your machine has 37 urgent problems. Those tools often cause more trouble than they fix.

If your Wi-Fi keeps dropping, sound stops working, graphics are glitchy, printers misbehave, or Windows has been reinstalled and something feels off, proper driver installation can help.

Having driver issues or strange hardware problems? Book your computer in with Fix My Laptop and we’ll sort it out properly.

Most people only hear about "drivers" when something stops working, or some sketchy pop-up announces that 37 critical drivers are outdated and must be urgently updated - oh, and it will cost you $99 for the "updater". As usual, most people are left wondering whether they are supposed to become a par...

One of the most common reactions we hear when discussing data recovery is simple:
“It’s just copying files, isn’t it? Why so expensive?”
If only it was that simple, you would have done it yourself.
