Evan Williams began his journey as a string technician in the early 1970s when he took a position in his father’s retail music shop in Brisbane Australia. The Classic Music Shop as it was then known specialised in repairs and restorations to orchestral strings and enjoyed the support of amateur and professionals alike. A change of ownership to the shop saw Evan move to another retailer and eventua

lly to a leading Australian importer of orchestral stringed instruments, all the while running a workshop at his home. Though not a maker, Evan maintains a deep respect for those with that gift and is in constant contact with a number of local makers and repairers whose friendship and encouragement he values most highly. The String Tech workshop specialised in preparing new instruments for sale, adding adjustments to the original manufacture producing a more stable, useable instrument which is more comfortable and inspiring to play.
