๐Ÿ“ถ "The Wi-Fi is slow!"

It's one of the most common IT complaints - but the Wi-Fi isn't always the problem.

When your team experiences slow performance, the real cause could be something else entirely:

๐Ÿ’ป Older devices struggling to keep up
โ˜๏ธ Cloud applications using more resources
๐ŸŒ An internet connection that no longer meets your business needs
๐Ÿ”„ Large files syncing in the background
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Security software, updates or applications slowing devices down
๐Ÿ“ก Network congestion during busy periods

Before investing in new equipment, it's important to identify what's actually causing the issue.

A proactive IT health check can uncover hidden bottlenecks, improve performance, and help your team get back to work faster.

So, if your team keeps saying "the Wi-Fi is slow", it might be time to look a little deeper.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Tech Tip Tuesday: 5-minute scam check

Scammers are getting more convincing, but a few simple questions can help you spot the warning signs before it's too late.

Before clicking any email, ask yourself:

โœ”๏ธ Was I expecting this?
โœ”๏ธ Is the sender exactly who they claim to be?
โœ”๏ธ Is there a sense of urgency or pressure?
โœ”๏ธ Are they asking for money, passwords, or sensitive information?
โœ”๏ธ Should I verify this another way?

It only takes a few minutes to check - but it could save your business from a costly scam.

Stay alert this Scams Awareness Week and encourage your whole team to think before they click.

๐Ÿšจ Your strongest defence against scams isn't just technology - it's your people.

Itโ€™s Scams Awareness Week and with reported scams already costing Australians almost $118million this year, itโ€™s vital to act to reduce risks.

Scammers don't just target systems, they look for ways to exploit trust, curiosity, and busy employees.

Hereโ€™s 5 ways you can help protect your organisation:

โœ”๏ธ Create a culture of verification. Encourage staff to pause and verify unusual requests, especially those involving payments, passwords, or sensitive information.
โœ”๏ธ Talk about scams regularly. Cyber awareness shouldn't be a once-a-year exercise. Share examples of current scams and encourage open conversations about suspicious emails, texts, and phone calls.
โœ”๏ธ Use multi-factor authentication (MFA). Adding an extra layer of security makes it much harder for attackers to access business accounts.
โœ”๏ธ Keep systems updated. Regular software updates and security patches close vulnerabilities that scammers and cybercriminals often exploit.
โœ”๏ธ Make reporting easy. If someone thinks they've clicked on a suspicious link, they should feel comfortable reporting it immediately. Acting quickly can make all the difference.

Scammers are constantly changing their tactics, but organisations that combine strong cyber security with informed, confident employees are far better placed to stop attacks before they become costly incidents.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธTech Tip Tuesday: Bing image search is getting a smart upgrade

Microsoft has started rolling out a new, AI organised version of Bing Image Search โ€” a cleaner, more structured way to explore images without scrolling through thousands of results.

Instead of a giant grid, the new layout groups images into clear categories, adds short explanations, and gives you a quick visual overview of a topic.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Learn more about the changes here: https://blogs.bing.com/search/May-2026/A-Smarter-Way-to-Explore-Images-Has-Come-to-Bing

Itโ€™s a small change, but a genuinely useful one โ€” especially for research, planning, and visual inspiration.

The new layout is rolling out gradually, so if you donโ€™t see it yet, it should appear soon.

๐Ÿšจ Could your patching process affect your cyber insurance?

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has issued a critical alert about attackers exploiting known vulnerabilities in popular content management systems (CMS), making timely patching more important than ever.

It's also a reminder that patch management has wider implications.

Many cyber insurance policies now include security obligations, including keeping systems up to date. If critical updates aren't applied within expected timeframes, it could impact your ability to make a claim following a cyber incident.

โœ”๏ธ Are your systems and websites regularly patched?
โœ”๏ธ Are plugins and applications kept up to date?
โœ”๏ธ Could you demonstrate your patch management process if needed?

Staying on top of updates helps reduce cyber risk, protects your business, and supports your cyber insurance obligations.

๐Ÿ”‘ Tech Tip Tuesday: When was the last time you reviewed who has access to your business systems?

People change roles, leave organisations, and finish projects, but their accounts often remain active.

To keep your organisation secure, itโ€™s worth taking time to review:

๐Ÿ”“ Microsoft 365 users
๐Ÿ”“ Shared mailboxes
๐Ÿ”“ Teams and SharePoint access
๐Ÿ”“ Third-party applications
๐Ÿ”“ Administrator accounts

The fewer unnecessary accounts you have, the lower your security risk.
