We're living in a time full of risk online, with online scammers being rife in daily life.

Whether it be a dodgy text message, an email message pretending to be from a known entity or even a malicious actor on social media trying to scam you using social engineering, we've all seen our fair share of scams.

It's a good idea to test yourself even if you think you're pretty good at spotting a scam.

You may be suprised at how convincing some scams can be.

It's important to remain vililant at all times. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

JCS Tech Tip: Windows 10 will be released soon. Look for the little windows icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Reserving an upgrade doesn't mean you commit to installing it, it just reserves it in case you decide to. This is free for all users of Windows 7 onwards who have a valid licence. The free upgrade must be installed within 12 months of the release tomorrow.

Today marks the end of Windows XP support!

After over 13 faithful years, the operating so many of us are used to is no longer supported by Microsoft.

What does this mean for you?

If you haven't upgraded to a more modern operating system, your system will no longer receive updates from Microsoft. If security holes are discovered, there will be no patches to protect you and your data.

If you are running a Windows XP vintage computer, there is also the risk that your hard drive is 7+ years old and as time goes by, more subject to a failure.

In a day and age where people are increasingly relying on their computers to store all their digital memories including photos, videos and documents, I can tell you from personal experience that you should always have a backup plan. Most people do not realise the fragile nature of their PC until it is too late.

At Julian's Computer Service, all of our computers are stress tested for at least 24hrs before ever leaving to ensure the components are not dodgy. You don't get that kind of service at your run off the mill computer joint do you? just another reason why JCS is the way to go!
