FTTN VDSL copper fault-finding. This VDSL service had been dropping out, which was causing a lot of problems for this family ๐Ÿ˜•. The internal fault was clear to see, but it wasnโ€™t the main cause ๐Ÿ˜. The earth fault turned out to be a couple of HRโ€™s in the network ๐Ÿ™ƒ. All faults were cleared and a txt the next day confirmed it was still holding on overnight โœ… via ripl.com

FTTN VDSL copper fault-finding. This FTTN service had been running slow and dropping out, which was frustrating for the owner, who has a few health issues of his own ๐Ÿ˜•. You can see the multiple faults on the internals - An unfiltered phone, non-standard cable, one-leg-open, and there must be a multi somewhere too ๐Ÿ™ƒ. A new internal cable straight to the socket will be the best solution here โœ… via ripl.com

VDSL (and ADSL) should be using a twisted pair, all the way into the modem, to get the best signal, and hence speeds ๐Ÿ™‚. As you can hear, the line sounds ok on both legs, so this non-standard cable isnโ€™t the main problem hereโ€ฆ but it needs to be replaced, regardless ๐Ÿ™ƒ via ripl.com

This was the perfect place to pull out the Multi-Tone/Many-Tone ๐Ÿ™‚. It sent the Tone down 5 different pairs, which gave 5x the chance of finding a good spare pair ๐Ÿ‘Œ via ripl.com

Toning out pairs can be challenging when youโ€™re working alone ๐Ÿ˜. Especially on a long cable run ๐Ÿ˜ฅ. Sometimes it would be nice to have another set of hands at the other end, to change the tone onto other pairs ๐Ÿ™‚. This is what the Multi-Tone / Many-Tone does โœ… via ripl.com
