๐ก It's official... Low Earth Orbit, High Speed, and Low-Latency Satellite nbn is coming! ๐ก
The long awaited announcement regarding the future of nbn Satellite using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) technology has finally been announced on 05 August, 2025
nbn has partnered with Amazon's 'Project Kuiper' which will deliver nbn's wholesale LEO Satellite offering, and is set to launch in Australia from around mid-2026
Kuiper has already began its initial deployment of 3,200 satellites from early 2025. There will be thousands of these Low Earth Orbit satellites, connected to each other by high-speed optical links to create a mesh network in space, which is linked to a global network of antennas, fibre and interconnection points on the ground.
Kuiper is a true low-latency, high bandwidth satellite network which will deliver significant improvements to the quality and reliability for broadband in regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.
When the service officially launces, nbn will offer LEO broadband services to more than 300,000 premises within the current satellite footprint, which will be accessible via participating Retail Service Provides such us AUS Internet.
Speed tiers and pricing have not yet been announced, however what we do know is that customers with a fixed address premises within the current nbn Satellite Footprint on an active SkyMuster service will be provided installation of the new LEO product at no cost by an approved nbn technician.
The existing Sky Muster satellites are expected to remain viable and operational until approximately 2032
We will keep you posted with new updates to this as information is released!
