Two Systems. Not four or more.
AI was meant to simplify work.
Instead, many organisations are preparing to add more layers resulting in more customisation, interfaces, governance wrappers and more integration surfaces.
At DOLIUM.AI, we take a different view.
An organisation only needs two foundational systems:
• Systems of Record; and
• a System of Work
Everything else is a capability, not a stack.
Systems of Record (ERP, CRM, EAM, HR, ITSM, data lakes etc.)
Currently they are critical to store what happened, what transactions have been processed and they manage permissions. They were designed for specific domains, finance, service, assets, supply chain. They are exceptional at their job.
But they were never designed to run the entire organisation as a living, adaptive decisioning entity.
An ERP is strong on finance, a CRM is strong on customer process and an EAM is strong on assets.
Why are we trying to make them everything to everybody?
That is not clarity, that is architectural stress.
A System of Work is where the shift happens.
It captures Decisions and Ontology across the entire organisation.
Not as documents or flowcharts but as a live, living, structure of:
• What decisions exist
• Who owns them
• What inputs are valid
• What controls apply
• What triggers escalation
• How they connect to mission
When decisions are structurally modelled in real time, something powerful happens.
• Context becomes decision bound.
• Agents operate inside defined rights.
• Humans supervise accountable and auditable outcomes.
What some describe as separate 'systems' of context, agency and engagement are in reality capabilities that a mature System of Work must orchestrate.
You do not need four or more, independent stacks.
You need one coherent decisioning layer sitting across Systems of Record.
Recently, Bob Vanstraelen (Salesforce CEO) outlined a thoughtful view of the Agentic Organisation built on four systems.
We agree with the intent but not the ex*****on.
• Trusted context matters.
• Structured work matters.
• Governed agents matter.
• Human oversight matters.
But here is the tension, when those capabilities are fragmented across multiple platforms:
• Transformation becomes brittle.
• Integration becomes the strategy.
• Moats are defended.
• Stacks get heavier.
• People and machines are forced to work in unnatural ways.
Systems of Record are extraordinary at preserving truth within their domain.
But only a System of Work can unlock that truth across the organisation.
Only a System of Work can bind context, action and accountability to decisions.
AI does not need more layers. It needs structural clarity.
Record the truth by all means but
architect decisions.
Two systems.
• That is how you reduce friction.
• That is how you avoid brittle transformation.
• That is how you unlock the data you already own.
• That is how you institutionalise your organisational IP.
