Shared with permission from the Lindfield/ East Lindfield/Killara/Roseville Community Group:🚨Magpie Alert Killara🚨
Today my child was almost hit in the eye by a magpie. It was incredibly frightening. We went to Oldfield Oval playground around 5:15pm. Both my 1 year old baby girl and 4 yrs old boy were hit by a magpie within the playground.

We had only just arrived at the playground when the magpie suddenly swooped down and attacked. Everything happened so quickly that there was barely any time to react.

Thankfully, the injury was right at the corner of the eye rather than directly on the eye itself, but it was still extremely close and could have been much more serious.

We left the playground immediately after the incident.

Please be extra careful around magpies, especially with young children. They can swoop incredibly quickly and without much warning. Stay alert and keep an eye out for nesting areas during magpie season. 🙏

Magpie alert ⚠️
Another swooping at the playground nest to Bert Oldfield Oval in Killara.

My 5 year old was swooped 2 steps from the car. Luckily it didnt get his eyes but he has 2 big scratches on his forehead.

Could council please put out some signs or warning tape? Very dangerous and distressing for everyone, but especially the littlest ones who seem to get targeted.
