AMD has agreed to replace a damaged Ryzen 9 7950X3D after initially denying the owner's warranty claim due to physical damage caused by a swollen CPU substrate.

The case gained attention after Hardware Unboxed publicly highlighted the issue and warned AMD that it risked becoming another marketing disaster similar to past Ryzen X3D failures.

Following the public scrutiny, Hardware Unboxed revealed that AMD contacted them and confirmed it would provide the customer with a replacement processor, effectively reversing its earlier decision.

This CPU cooler obviously had an issue from the moment it was installed. The OEM decided to just "Shim" the cooler to add extra pressure to the CPU instead of replacing the cooler.

We don't like to trash other builders, however As we have said in the past, we are greatfull we are not ALLIED with this OEM Builder.

👀 When "BUYING A NEW LAPTOP" be careful 😱

Many reputable brands are now saving money by installing the memory and storage (SSD) on the motherboard instead of these being separate components. This means that the RAM & Storage drive you get in the new unit possibly cannot be upgraded.

This means when you have a memory or storage failure, your new laptop cannot be repaired affordably, or worse the drive with all your valuable data fails resulting in exceedingly expensive data recovery!

Please be careful and ask before buying your new device, are these parts integrated & upgradeable or are the memory & storage fixed. If this question cannot be answered, walkaway & get additional advice...🤔

Traffic to DuckDuckGo's proudly 'No AI' search page has tripled since latest Google AI search update | News

May 30 — Privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo has announced that its opt-in, generative AI-limiting search page has received three times as much traffic since Google's latest round of updates and PR for AI mode search.

This latest announcement from DuckDuckGo appears to exclusively pertain to noai.duckduckgo.com, its AI opt-out search option, while its dedicated app has seen an approx. 30% increase in downloads in the same timeframe.

"Since Google revealed its plans for an AI search overhaul, visits to our 'No AI' search page have tripled," the company wrote on Bluesky. "And they’re still rising!"

It's worth noting that the No AI search doesn't stem from a principled anti-AI stance on the part of DuckDuckGo⁠—it's more a pragmatically benevolent centering of user choice. DuckDuckGo offers a corresponding AI maximalist experience on the other end of the spectrum with duck.ai.
