At Healing Our Mob, the work we're proudest of often happens behind the scenes.
Over the past year we've been walking alongside Boorrumpah Goupong Aboriginal Corporation (BGAC) — the first community-based Aboriginal men's organisation in Ipswich — strengthening the things that hold a strong organisation up: governance, funding, compliance and the day-to-day systems.
The point isn't for us to run the work. It's the opposite. When the back-of-house is solid, BGAC's team can keep their focus where it belongs — on the men and families they walk with, on social and emotional wellbeing, su***de prevention, and supporting men coming home from custody.
That's what community-controlled looks like in practice: the answers already sit in community, and our job is to back the people doing the work so it stays in their hands.
Proud to say BGAC was recently named a finalist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award at the 2025 OpenMinds Awards. Strong men, strong communities. 🖤💛❤️
