SPOONFLOWER DESIGN CHALLENGE
Hydrangea Haven Art Nouveau - French Blue on Crisp White (M)

When designing with hydrangeas, the biggest challenge is avoiding a generic "sea of blue." To let their character truly shine, I grouped them into structured trios—giving each bloom a distinct presence framed by classic Art Deco symmetry. 🌿✨

A few fascinating things about these garden icons:

Those colorful petals aren't petals at all—they’re modified leaves called sepals.

They act as natural pH indicators, famously dubbed the “Change Rose” (acidic soil yields this rich French blue, while alkaline brings out blush pinks).

They have inspired artists and poets since at least 710 A.D. That is a long time!

Hydrangea Haven in French Blue is now available on wallpaper, fabric, and home decor over at Spoonflower (link in bio).

Off on another little adventure! 🌊✨

One of the coolest parts of being a pattern designer is seeing where my artwork travels once it leaves the studio. These four designs were selected by Borderleap for a featured run in the Patterned puzzle game on Apple Arcade! 🧩

Because I’m a dedicated non-Apple user and the app’s licensing schedule runs on short, rotating 14-day windows, I fly completely blind over here! I never actually get to see them live on a screen myself. Once their featured run in the game wraps up, they head back into the vault—but knowing that players all around the world got to piece together these surfboards, botanicals, and speedboats jigsaw-style is just the best feeling. 💙

Every dark, romantic tale needs a key to its hidden secrets. Meet the Antique Keys Stripe Coordinate, designed specifically to pair alongside my Gothic Ravens main print! 🐦‍⬛✨

When creating a rich, immersive pattern collection, the secondary designs are just as important as the hero print. For this coordinate, I wanted to capture a moody, Dark Academia aesthetic. I’ve woven ornate, vintage skeleton keys into elegant panels that give off a classic, textured wainscoting and luxury wallpaper vibe.📜

Whether you are pairing it with the ravens for a dramatic contrast or using it on its own to bring a touch of gothic elegance to your home decor, apparel, or quilting projects, this coordinate brings the perfect amount of dense, rhythmic detail. A classic reimagined. ✨

I’ve been diving into the archives and giving one of my favorite collections, Nouveau Petal, a luxurious, modern face-lift!

This design bridges clean, structured Art Deco lines with fluid Art Nouveau botanicals—but the real magic is in the details. Swipe to the close-ups to see the brand new, subtle vertical linen texture overlay that gives the entire pattern a soft, tactile, high-end feel when printed.

I have refined the colorways to ensure perfect consistency. The new collection lineup features Earthy Sage, Retro Chartreuse, Charcoal Cream, Misty Mint, and Terracotta Mist. There truly is a color to suit every single mood.
