Oddly rare I have my work reviewed, but pretty sure this isn’t a unique experience, give me the budget and I’ll perform all the magic in my arsenal that decades of lessons have taught.

I recently reached out to Tim to service my beloved Rotel RX402. It had been running on only one channel out of four 😆 and was paired with a Planar 2 turntable, so it definitely needed some love.

Tim went above and beyond with the repair. He didn’t just fix the obvious issue — he dug right into the amp, cleaned it up, replaced tired components, re‑biased it properly, and brought the whole unit back to life. The difference is unbelievable. It now runs smoother, cleaner, and stronger than I’ve ever heard it, and you can tell the work was done with real care and craftsmanship.

I honestly can’t put into words how good a job Tim did. He’s given the amplifier a completely new life — the kind of work I reckon many others wouldn’t have bothered to do.

I highly recommend Tim for any amplifier, DAC, or speakers that need help. 👍👌

Haven’t been posting much for ages trying to navigate my survival through the many challenges in life and deriving income from numerous previous ‘repairs’ that need repairing before serious diagnosis can begin.

This though one of my pet peeves, these are known as witness marks, and it’s pretty damn obvious the last person had no interest in attention to detail, 3 out of 8 with a few goes, so now this amp goes home given a whole new lease on life but there’s every chance the additional marks in the case previously went unnoticed yet this restoration will be tarnished if they’re spotted 😏

It’s funny some manufacturers go out of their way to retain very content customers, and others don’t understand I don’t seek to replicate their product when seeking technical support.

Can’t be sure I’d get the blueprints here either but the manual covers a lot, although I’ve not heard a tube compared to a tire before, capacitors as suspension and filters, carburettor or injectors are volume control, a gearbox to control the tone, voltage the fuel lines and current the fuel, there are many comparisons able to be drawn.

Perhaps it’s time to get back to a focus on encouraging maintenance, rather than hours chasing gremlins and stone walls just to get to a quotable stage.

Then there’s the more often sometimes when it takes overcoming a fuel system fault before getting into the many facets of the drivetrain, and I understand why people offering this level of expertise are seeking new careers.

Having been around the HiFi retail world for many years I always admire the knowledge of those certain sales staff, the ones who genuinely know every product in the store and could explain the nuanced differences between each in the group. I also am blown away by ‘civilians’ who have researched every product under the sun, I save that space for song lyrics and faults, I remember products by faults.

That said I have assembled a powerhouse system of clarity and had a mate over last night who noted how it was rather impressive how hard I was able to push my system, still, and that it has not physically changed in over a decade, although that time hasn’t been without it’s hiccups but blessed that maintenance and experimentation for me is free, yours at a reasonable fee.

To think I can and do listen to Pink Floyd’s music in my lounge room on a pair of German speakers able to comfortably resolve from 16Hz up to 65kHz, and often pushed to their extremes, each driven by a pair of British monoblock power amplifiers with a combined available power of circa 638w conservatively rated a side, 4000w+ deliverable at transient extremes of potential power available to each speaker, 8000 watts headspace within the combined amps in a compact stack that brings the complexities encapsulated in every recording to a very tangible reality in the comfort of home.

Inside of an insanely expensive Solution 725 pre amp to replace a broken RCA socket on the hardest board to get to of course, and while removing a bucket load of screws and such, I also need to desolder the wires from the ground lift switch, and to the best of my knowledge a bit of wire negates the function of a switch 🤔

**this is before I got a soldering iron anywhere near it too 😬
