The health effects of racism can include stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain, insomnia, stomach and dietary upset, increased shakes and sweating, rapid mood swings, aggressive outbursts, and lack of confidence or worth.
Franklin (2019) discusses the theory of Racial Microaggressions and Racial Battle Fatigue and these Microaggressions can be likened to the racist battles between trolls and group or page members on Facebook. Overall, the members of the group are experiencing Racial Battle Fatigue as they ‘fight’ and ‘defend’ from the invading racist troll over a period of time that could be days, to months, or even years.
