Melbourne, here we come.

First stop on the road south was Kiama to catch up with Nathan and Esther and collect the finishing touches for Fine Food Australia.

Esther from Known Designs Printing has done a brilliant job on our new shirts, and the coffee-sack aprons Careen made for us have come up seriously well. Add a big WALCHA across the back and I reckon there’ll be no mistaking where we’re from.

There’s something pretty special about taking a little coffee company from a small New England town onto a national stage.

Next stop: Melbourne.

Tonight, Kiama Business Network hosted their annual Microbusiness Event, showcasing 10 local businesses with fewer than five employees who are giving the whole business thing a right ol’ crack.

There was chatter, food and drinks, networking, opportunities to share ideas, and then the chance to hear from these 10 incredible microbusinesses. We learnt a little about their history, what they do, and the impact they’re having right here in our local community.

But one of the most exciting things for us was looking around the room and seeing our handiwork scattered throughout the event.

From branded name stickers, a frame, business cards, flyers and custom keyrings, to pull-up banners, custom tees and hoodies; it was such a special reminder that local support really does go a long way.

Because behind every small business is a person (or a small team) who has had an idea, taken a risk and decided to give it a go.

And that’s something we absolutely love about what we do at Known Designs & Print.

Spring is in the air.

There’s warmth, sunshine and the first signs of flowers beginning to bloom. The garden is coming alive, and there’s something about this season that feels full of anticipation; new life, bright beginnings and a little more colour after the darkness of winter.

And then, just like that, labels that make you think of summer come across our printer.

These photos are of my daughter’s rabbit alongside a very kind and generous gift from one of our customers.

As a homeschooling family, whose children have never been to school and are now 19, 18, 17 and 11, we often have absolutely no idea when school term dates are, or when special school events are happening!

The only time I sometimes get an inkling that something must be going on at school is when a custom order comes through that gives me a clue… like when someone orders something for book week!

And while I could be completely wrong, I have a feeling these three sweaters might have been created for something like Alvin and the Chipmunks, perhaps three friends or siblings getting excited about dressing up as these very cute little characters.

And honestly, that’s one of the things I love about custom printing.

Shoutout: Small businesses backing small businesses.

Known Designs and Print have been with Walcha Coffee from the beginning, and one of the biggest things they’ve helped us do is transform our packaging.

We went from having a bag that essentially held coffee and had our name on it, to packaging that actually built an identifiable brand — something recognisable, distinctive and genuinely different on the shelf.

That transformation has been a big part of Walcha Coffee becoming what it is today.

Nathan and Esther haven’t just printed things for us. They’ve helped us think through ideas, solve problems, refine the brand and turn concepts into something tangible.

I’m a sucker for anything purple.

I’ve always loved deep purple; beautiful, rich, royal and unique. 💜

I’ve also always loved teal. Vibrant, bright and somehow just pairs beautifully with purple. Well… that’s what I think anyway!

So when South Coast Blends - Specialty Nuts - Wollongong, Shellharbour asked for a repeat print of their teal business cards, I got a little excited, because sitting next to my purple business cards, they’re all sorts of wonderful.

How it started… and how it ended. 😂

I’ve been trying to separate work from the rest of life just a little bit more on the weekends. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely a good thing; and one I’m trying to prioritise a little more.

So, with only one child in tow, we decided to tackle the coastal trail from Kiama to Gerringong. And wow… the coastline views are pretty spectacular. The sun was shining, the sea was sparkling, and for a little while, I completely forgot about work.

From Gerringong, we dirt-tracked it towards Gerroa, where I was unfortunately stabbed in the leg by a random tree branch. 🌿😩 It’s still stinging, so I feel like I should at least get some sympathy points for that.

From there, we rode along a back road towards Berry.

Thankfully, hubby and son #3 were keen to catch the train home because there is absolutely NO WAY I could have turned around and ridden all the way back. 😂

About 32km later, I think I’ve earned the right to be completely exhausted and not want to do a single thing for the rest of the day…
