Unfortunately there is another outage at Mt Hickey, Prime 6 is currently off and technicians are looking into it.
As per previous we don't recommend tuning your TV'S at this time.

We believe Win TV from Broadford is now operational can anyone confirm please?

PS if you tuned your TV whilst Win was off air a retune may be required.

Hearing many reports that channel Nine (Shepparton Win TV) via Mt Hickey Broadford, is not currently working.
Whilst many on the west side of Kilmore can, we unfortunately cannot receive Mt Hickey reception at our business location in Kilmore and are unable to directly confirm this issue.
Normally we would advise do not retune your TV or device at this time until the situation is resolved and to contact the Mitchell Shire Council to confirm if necessary, as they are responsible for the maintenance on the transmitter.

**Update the problem has definitely been reported and is currently being investigated.

Tip of the day
Having problems with mobile phone calls near or just outside your house but the mobile signal strength seems fine?
Check out the WiFi calling settings on your device, which is typically on by default.
If it's on try turning it off!

Update on Bendigo reception and transmitter.
For viewers that received their channels direct from Bendigo, and have no other option you may wish to try a rescan now.
The commercial networks now have a lower powered hybrid version of their services running which gives 2 programs per network for Prime,WIN and Southern Cross.
It may not work in weaker signal areas as it is a temporary, and seems to be a lower powered solution, but it is worth a try.
ABC and SBS appear back at full power from the Bendigo site.

The timeframe for complete repairs still appears to be potentially months not weeks.

For viewers of the Broadford Mt Hickey tower the temporary solution of a refeed from Shepparton, implemented by Mitchell Shire, appears to be working pretty well.
If you receive signals from MT Hickey and haven't already done so, a rescan should bring up Shepparton commercial channels on your TV.

IMPORTANT NEWS
Channel 7 Melbourne are shutting down their Standard definition programming this friday 27/2 (according to there website) and moving to the newer Mpeg 4 High definition protocols.
This is similar to what regional commercial channels have already done.
What does it mean for viewers?
The most likely scenario is a rescan of the TV channels on your TV or other free to air device will be required to load the HD channels into the sequence.

Why are they doing it?
The new compression offers the possibility of more programming with improved picture quality.

Will my TV be able to do it?
Most TVs, if not all, that are less than 10 years old should be fine with a rescan.
TV's in the roughly 15 year old age bracket may, or may not, be able to do so, but its worth trying to rescan to see in any case

How can I tell if the TV worked or not?
You will see channel 7HD appear in the sequence if it worked, if it doesn't and the TV is too old, you may see unusual errors such as invalid program, sound only on 7, or the the number 7 may be missing altogether.
In this case there are 2 options
1, Attach a set top box to the old TV and use it to watch the channels or
2, Purchase a new TV.

Mt Hickey update
Mitchell Shire has just informed us that the transmitter at Mt Hickey has been adjusted to receive Shepparton channels.
A rescan of your TV or device is necessary and given it has only just happened there may be some unforeseen coverage issues.
But none the less good news and kudos to the Shire.

Bendigo TV transmitter update
We now have verifiable onsite evidence, from a number of sources that the damage to the Bendigo site is significant.
Transmitter buildings and equipment have been destroyed, and cabling, including communication cables on the tower itself.
Backup generators, power cabling and power feeds have been destroyed or severely damaged.
It is therefore extremely unlikely the repairs will be completed in the short term.

Options
Broadford viewers of Mt Hickeys feed from Bendigo.
If possible, stream 7+ etc. via your TV or an external streaming device through the internet, this is also likely the most cost-effective solution for now.
There are currently no other viable TV towers available for most areas of Broadford, with perhaps a few exceptions nearer to the golf course, that may have an old and still working Melbourne antenna, or it may be possible near the Golf course to repoint their Mt Hickey Broadford antenna to the Shepparton transmitter (the UHF antenna needs to be horizontal for Shepparton, not vertical like Mt Hickey.)

Kilmore, in particular west of Kilmore, i.e. Kings lane, Kingsgate village etc.
Again, if you can stream the services 7+ etc. then that is the best and most cost-effective solution for now.
This area can at times receive fair Melbourne or reasonable Shepparton reception with the right configuration.
Generally, in this area, neither option can provide the same signal quality compared to Bendigo via Mt Hickey, and Melbourne in particular can be quite problematic at times on tiled roof houses due to internal equipment (Heaters A/Cs, lighting) within the roof, interfering with the Melbourne antenna.
However, Shepparton or Melbourne can be tested and attempted if necessary for this part of Kilmore.

Radio coverage
Radio services from Mt Alexander Bendigo are also off air due to the substantial damage.

ABC 774
If you can still receive it via the Melbourne transmission point, then no action is needed.
If not, you can try AM 594 KHZ (ABC via Horsham, but it does travel a long way in our direction) or if necessary, you should be able to stream ABC on your phone or device via the internet.

Receiving unconfirmed reports that Bendigo TV stations may be back on, is anyone able to confirm this please? Edit, it has now been confirmed the Bendigo signal will be off for some time.

10/01/2026

Post Update
Fire has damaged the TV towers at Bendigo (Mt Alexander) and the TV signal and radio services from Bendigo are off air due to this damage.
This signal feeds the Broadford Tower at Mt HIckey, so viewers of Bendigo via Broadford will have lost signal as well, this includes many viewers on the west side of Kilmore that use the Broadford tower.
Retuning the TV is not recommended in case the signal returns soon.
The best short term option for viewers is streaming (7+ etc) if it is possible to do that with your equipment.
We recommend patience at this stage unless the issue drags on, in other words don't engage an Antenna installer unless desperate to try another transmission source via a different TV tower with possibly a different antenna.
(Note this is not always possible depending on town location.)

The Bendigo Tower services possibly as many as half a million viewers state wide so this hopefully will mean repairs will be expedited, depending on the amount of damage.

Please note we return from leave Monday 19/1/26.
