🚨 URGENT SCAM WARNING FOR MACKAY RESIDENTS 🚨
I have recently helped a number of local people following frightening scam incidents involving fake virus warnings and remote-access software.
One person came dangerously close to losing $50,000.
These scams often begin with a warning suddenly appearing on your computer claiming that:
⚠️ Your computer has a Trojan, virus or serious security problem
⚠️ Your bank account or personal information is at risk
⚠️ You must telephone a “support” number immediately
⚠️ You must click a link or allow someone to access your computer
Do not call the number. Do not click the link. Do not give anyone remote access to your computer.
If this happens:
1. Stop using the computer.
2. Do not enter any passwords or banking information.
3. If somebody is already controlling the computer, disconnect it from the internet or turn it off.
4. Call your bank immediately if you disclosed banking information, transferred money or allowed access while online banking was open.
