Social media is a really important part of a musician’s marketing strategy. Which means it is also a crucial platform for sharing your brand. But you need to do more than just promoting your latest release, or posting the odd photos of your gigs or your bandmates. Think about things like colour-scheme, filters and photography style. How do your images work together as a group? What personality can you show in your captions? Consider sharing anecdotes or ‘behind the scenes’ stories that give your audience an insight into your musical practise. And don’t be afraid to share your inspiration – images of a place, a person or pet, or even a quote are a great way to introduce variety into your feed.

Cover art isn’t just about what goes on the front cover. It’s about how the whole package works together as a design which will ultimately rest in someone’s hands.

Harvey Russell loves what he describes as the ‘challenge’ of writing a quality country song; although they can sound simple, there’s an honesty to country music which means there are few places to hide. So when it came time to create the artwork to support Harvey’s debut solo album, we took this idea and ran with it! Peta and Harvey jumped into the studio (the photographic kind, that is) and snapped some fantastic portraits. The idea was to capture Harvey’s personality without over-styling him or adding a bunch of special effects.

"For me, it was how important it is for the language and visual components to work together – how they complement each other. The idea really comes to life with all the different elements – I saw how things like words and imagery brought more depth to what our original idea was. And I also learnt how important font is!" - Adam Kellerman on working with Talk Ink to build the Age of Ability brand.

Find out more about what Adam and Rani had to say about the creative process in our blog (link in bio).

So much of what makes a small business unique is the personalities behind it. It's rare that you find a small business operator who is just in it for the money. What is more often the case is that there are one or two people behind the brand who have an incredible passion for what they do and possibly even a deeply personal story about why they started the business in the first place.

Take the Age of Ability founders Rani Vincent and Adam Kellerman for example. These inspirational young people both faced tremendous physical challenges at an early age. Rani had two brain injuries before she was 10, and at age 13 Adam was diagnosed with bone cancer which led the eventual removal of his right hip.

Their vision for the Age of Ability was to use collective experience to transform the way people perceive their limitations and inspire them to live an extraordinary life.

Our challenge as brand specialists was to translate this history and the drive and fierce spirit of these two amazing individuals into a brand under which they could deliver their vision. Our reward through the process was having the privilege of getting to know Rani and Adam very well and receiving the gift of inspiration from people who know a thing or two about resilience!
