Next week marks National Road Safety Week. In 2022 Australia recorded the highest number of road deaths since 2017. Safety technology has played a key role in the past in reducing the fatality rate, but more needs to be done.

Innovations such as eCall can reduce the harm inflicted by road accidents. Reflecting the life-saving benefits of similar programs in Europe, eCall could save up to 200 Australian lives each year.

eCall enables a vehicle to automatically place an emergency call to first responders if involved in an accident, even if the occupants are trapped or unconscious. Using geolocation tech and sensors in the car, trained staff can access critical information, including exact location, speed and direction of travel to ensure the right help is sent as quickly as possible.

Intelematics is proud to be working with some of Australia’s leading car brands to implement eCall. Get in touch if you’d like to know more.

Last year’s road toll in Australia saw the highest number of fatalities since 2017. In light of Australia’s rising road toll, InIntelematics AUJules Snow discusses whether we need to wait for policy, or instead, can industry help Australia take the next step in its road safety evolution much sooner.
