Today marks 10 years since I moved to Melbourne βΊοΈ
Hi there π Iβm Hayley, founder and creative director of Bobby Mac Design. A now, not so little studio I started back in 2015, inspired by my very talented grandparents. Bobby (a creative engineer) and Mac (who designed the original Smithβs Chips logo and packet. True story) π₯°
A decade ago today, I packed up my life on the Central Coast, NSW (after 22 years there) and moved to Melbourne. Watsonia, to be exact β it looked close to the city on the map π. I was jobless, ambitious. Some would call it brave, I would call it naΓ―ve π
After a few months of living that Centrelink life, and plenty of mistakes running my own freelance gigs, I finally landed a graphic design role at Australia. That opened the door to working with amazing brands like and ), before taking the leap to go solo in 2018.
Since then, Iβve worked with around 80 brands (and their sub-brands), with many clients sticking around for 4+ years. and I are celebrating 6 years together! My brand baby has seen many lives π. About 85% of Bobby Macβs work comes through referrals (good news travels fast!) and Iβm proud to be the design wingwoman for so many incredible businesses β from start-ups to established names.
Iβve always believed that good design lasts β and Iβm chuffed that many of the brands Iβve worked on are still going strong 5+ years later, evolving and growing with their markets.
So when people ask me, βwhat exactly do you do?β β¦ the truth is, a lot! Strategy, creative direction, design, marketing, wrangling the business side, winging it, and cheering on my clients like theyβre my own team.
Iβm not usually one for tooting my own horn and my introverted side tends to find it hard to take a compliment but I am bloody proud of what I have acheived over my 12+ years of my career, I donβt often stop to celebrate. But today, Iβm bloody proud. Of the brands Iβve helped shape, the people Iβve met, and the businesses Iβve grown alongside.
Thank you to every single one of you whoβs been part of the journey so far. Hereβs to the next decade π₯
