From PhD research to strengthening Australia–India connections, we're so proud of our award-winning academic, researcher and technologist Ruchi Sembey!

Her research examines how emerging technologies including AI and VR operate in real-world human contexts – and how they can be designed with diverse people, cultures and environments in mind.

This human-centred perspective took her to the 2026 Australia-India Youth Dialogue, joining 30 emerging leaders from Australia and India across government, technology, education, business and the creative arts.

What does a data scientist bring to the rail industry?

Our Bachelor of Computer Science and Master of Cybersecurity alumnus Darren Tan is a Senior Data Scientist with the Monash Institute of Railway Technology (IRT) who is applying AI to help monitor track conditions across heavy haul networks.

His work includes developing RailMind, a concept exploring how different sources of information can be consolidated to support faster, more informed decision-making.

A great example of the impactful work our alumni are doing! Learn more about Darren in Rail Express: https://www.railexpress.com.au/data-scientist-has-big-ideas-for-rail/

Last Friday, we welcomed a delegation from Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to Monash University’s Clayton campus.

We were delighted to present on our Monash AI Institute and discuss potential collaborations that could pave the way for more global experiences and overseas immersion programs for SIT students.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and turning these opportunities into action.

Disinformation doesn’t attack computers. It attacks belief.

As false narratives become easier to create, amplify and distribute at scale, how can countries know whether they’re actually prepared to defend themselves against it?

Monash University researchers have developed the first nation-state Capacity Maturity Model specifically designed to assess a country’s ability to counter disinformation campaigns. AI doesn't read code the way humans do – so what happens when you strip away the formatting, indentation and special symbols it doesn't need? 💻

Learn about SimPy, a new format of code that can reduce the time and energy AI consumes when processing information, making it a better collaborator to human devs.

SimPy was created by Dr Xiaoning Du from our Department of Software Systems and Cybersecurity - Monash Information Technology and her collaborators Zhensu Sun, Zhou Yang, Li Li and David Lo.

Read the latest edition of Good bITs & bytes to discover how SimPy, its Python translator DualCode and its companion Token Sugar are rethinking programming languages for AI to support the environment, society and human-AI collaboration: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/programming-languages-werent-built-ai-mind-gcnuc
