Did you know that when you call Triple Zero (000), the biggest hurdle could be simply identifying where you are?

Mornington Peninsula Shire has installed Emergency Markers across key public spaces—parks, foreshore areas, and walking trails, making the open spaces more resilient to emergency incidents.

Each marker features a unique code, when quoted to 000, instantly recognised by 000 call takers, allowing emergency services to locate incidents with higher accuracy.

This smart initiative means:

🚑 Faster response times

📍 Accurate dispatch locations

🛡️ Safer community in remote or high-traffic outdoor areas

A simple yet robust way to protect residents and visitors— as in an emergency, every second counts.

As we step into July and the start of a new financial year, we’re reflecting on one of our proudest achievements from the last—winning the Innovation & Enterprise Award at the 2025 City of Whittlesea Business Awards.

June wrapped up a year of meaningful progress—supporting emergency response, asset management, and biosecurity with intuitive, field-mapping SaaS solutions to coordinate, capture, collaborate and communicate to solve problems with intelligence gathered and shared.

A huge thanks to our dedicated Geospatial, survey, and engineering teams for their commitment to helping Local Government, Asset and Environmental Management customers to achieve more with limited resources, and the City of Whittlesea for recognising the positive impact of RapidMap's GNSS & Spatial Data Systems, Solutions and Services on local employment, the economy, natural resource management, climate change resilience, and community safety.

Here’s to another year of purpose-driven R&D to underpin a sustainable future through data driven insights - together.

Did you know? In late 2024, the Borough of Queenscliffe began installing new Emergency Markers along its picturesque coastline.

Each marker features a unique alphanumeric code tied directly into the Triple Zero Victoria dispatch system, including precise GPS coordinates and navigational data. In an emergency, you simply relay this code instead of struggling to describe your location—ensuring responders reach you faster.

The Emergency Marker Program is in place to enhance public safety, building on their success in other Victorian coastal communities. They represent a smart, practical upgrade to emergency preparedness across our public spaces.

💡 Whether you’re walking the beach, hiking trails, or enjoying a seaside day—remember: if you ever need to call 000, just share the code from the nearest marker.

🛍️ Where are Emergency Markers located at Shopping Centres—and why does it matter?

Shopping centres often have multiple entry and exit points, making it critical to place an Emergency Marker at each access point. These markers aren't just signs—they’re lifesaving tools.

Each Emergency Marker includes a unique 3-letter, 3-number code, containing:
📍 GPS coordinates
🛠️ Landmark details (e.g., near toilets, BBQs, loading docks)
🚧 Obstruction info (like locked gates or bollards)
🛟 On-site emergency equipment availability

This data is instantly accessible to Triple Zero (000), allowing emergency services to:
✅ Know exactly where to go
✅ Identify the best route in
✅ Understand what's waiting at the scene

In an emergency, clarity and precision save time—and saving time saves lives.
Next time you're designing or managing shopping centre safety, ask yourself:
👉 Are all your access points clearly marked for emergencies?

🚨 Did you know spotting an emergency signage is highly dependent on the usage trends of the space?

In a real emergency, every second matters. That’s why the material and visibility of Emergency Marker signs is more than just a design choice—it can be the difference between life and death.

Whether in coastal paths, bushland trails, or public open spaces, reflective signage brings immediate advantages:
✅ Brighter and more visible—day or night
✅ Durable and weather-resistant—won’t chip, crack, or rust
✅ Easier to spot during sunrise, sunset, rain, or low light
✅ Helps emergency responders locate people faster

When placing signage, it’s not just about the location—consider:
🕒 What time of day people use your space
🌳 What surrounds the sign (trees, poles, benches)
👀 Is it visible from different angles

Sign fabrication and correct orientation matter. Don't let visibility become a budget oversight.

Because when it comes to safety signage, it’s all about:
🔦 Seeing it faster.
⏱️ Responding quicker.
🧭 Saving lives.

❓🧐 Did you know Barwon Coast has installed 60 upgraded green between Collendina and Breamlea, as part of a vital public safety initiative.

Each marker includes a unique six-character code linked to the Computer Aided Dispatch system at Triple Zero Victoria, allowing emergency services to quickly pinpoint a caller’s location in the event of an emergency. This simple, yet powerful change is already helping to reduce response times and improve coordination between first responders.

✅ Rollout began in late 2023, with successful completion of Stage 2 in January 2025.

This initiative is a timely reminder of the role clear location identifiers play in saving lives—especially in high-traffic areas like beaches, trails, and recreation zones.

📣 60 new emergency markers are now installed. We have taken a significant step forward in public safety with the installation of 60 new emergency markers along the coastal reserve from Collendina to Breamlea.

These green signs with unique codes help Triple Zero Victoria pinpoint exact locations during emergencies, ensuring quicker responses. Next time you’re at the beach, keep an eye out for these markers. In an emergency, dial 000 and provide the code from the nearest marker.
