Chasing debt shouldn’t feel like chasing ghosts 👻

But for a lot of teams… it does.

Here’s why most collections processes struggle 👇

❌ **1. Inconsistent follow-ups**
Accounts get missed, reminders go out late (or not at all), and momentum is lost.

❌ **2. Relying on one channel**
If you’re only calling or only emailing, you’re missing people where they actually respond.

❌ **3. Too much manual work**
Teams spend more time chasing than actually recovering—leading to burnout and lower results.

---

✅ **What actually works?**

✔️ Automated, consistent follow-ups
✔️ Multi-channel communication (SMS, email, etc.)
✔️ Giving customers easy ways to pay (without the back-and-forth)

---

The goal isn’t to chase harder—it’s to chase smarter.

What’s the biggest challenge your team is facing right now?

Did you know?

SMS messages often achieve significantly higher open rates than email, making them a powerful communication channel for collection agencies.

Most text messages are read within minutes of being received, while emails can sit unread in an inbox for hours — or even days.

For agencies, this means SMS can be an effective way to send payment reminders, share account updates, or provide quick links to a payment portal.

Using the right communication channel at the right time can make a big difference in debtor engagement and recovery outcomes.

Debt collection is allowed — but it’s also tightly regulated. Collectors have the right to contact someone about a genuine debt and ask for repayment, but they must do it fairly and respectfully. No harassment, no threats, no misleading claims, and they need to stop if a person asks for contact in writing only (within reason).

Debtors have rights too:
✅ to ask for proof of the debt
✅ to be treated respectfully
✅ to request a payment plan or hardship option if needed
✅ to complain to AFCA/ASIC/ACCC if conduct crosses the line.

Best outcomes happen when there’s clarity, options, and a human tone on both sides.

What’s rising most for your team right now?
✅ “Can’t pay till Jan” responses
✅ First-time arrears
✅ Partial payments
✅ More hardship requests

3 things that quietly slow collections (even when the team is working hard):

1) No segmentation
If everyone gets the same treatment, you usually end up over-chasing some accounts and under-servicing others.
A simple split like new vs aged, high balance vs low balance, or ‘likely to pay’ vs ‘needs support’ changes outcomes fast.

2) Inconsistent follow-ups
Most delays aren’t because the debtor said “no” — it’s because the next step didn’t happen at the right time.
A steady cadence (even a simple 3-touch sequence) beats sporadic bursts every time.

3) Unclear payment options
If a debtor doesn’t immediately understand how to resolve the account, they stall.
Clear choices early — “pay in full”, “make an arrangement”, “self-serve portal” — reduces back-and-forth and speeds up recovery.

Which one bites hardest for you right now?

💡 Tech Truth Tuesday:
If your collections system still needs manual reminders to chase overdue accounts… it’s not “classic,” it’s costly.

Automate smarter with DebtCol — where every follow-up happens on time, every time.
