Researchers at Germany’s Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) say ordinary WiFi routers could soon identify and track people with near-perfect accuracy using AI and standard wireless signals.

The system, called BFId, analyzes unencrypted beamforming feedback information (BFI) generated during normal WiFi communication, allowing it to recognize individuals even if they are not carrying a device or have their phone switched off.

In tests involving 197 participants, the technology reportedly achieved up to 99.5% accuracy.
