Greetings all, Some of you may know us for our amp designs, The Newyorker, Atom Smasher and Electron Crusher, but in the last 5 years we have also become somewhat of a Filmosound specialist.
Whats a Filmosound? Its the thing dreams are made of... actually, its the amplifier part of a Bell & Howell projector built through the 50s and 60s, the circuits of which are very similar to an early Fender tweed deluxe and the other, rarer one, more in tune to a Vox AC15. These amps have developed a cult following with names like Ry Cooder, Dan Auerbach and Jack White being thrown around as Filmosound users/owners. An awesome Guitar amp, they are also highly prized by Harmonica players.
Here at Nikola, Every Filmosound we modify is taken apart, all the unnecessary projector electrics are removed, all out of spec electronics replaced, all Electrolytics replaced and then put back together. We lightly massage the circuit to make it the ultimate for either guitar or harp. Most of these amps came with 110v power transformers but we have a 240v transformer custom made to the original specs so those in 240v countries dont need to lug around a 15kg step down transformer (we are able to offer both 110v and 240v))
A Filmosound head (front row of first picture) start at $700Aus for 110v or $900Aus for 240v. If you have a Filmosound you want to convert we can do so at a reduced rate, If you need some help, we are always happy to offer advice.
We currently have the two combos (back row of first picture) available. Both are 240v, one the common 6v6 model and the other, the oh so rare el84 model. Both come mounted in an original Bell & Howell speaker cabinet, Both using a 1950s Rola 12PX Alnico speaker. If you are interested, please contact us for more information.
