Major NDIS reforms have been announced, with significant implications for providers across the sector.
The proposed changes include mandatory registration for higher-risk supports, tighter eligibility and planning rules, changes to social and community participation budgets, new commissioning arrangements for intermediaries and SIL, digital payment reforms, and a broader shift toward stronger regulation, oversight, and market stewardship.
One of the biggest changes for providers is the planned expansion of mandatory registration. Minister Butler said the Government expects around 90% of providers to be registered under the new system, compared with an estimated 6% currently. This will build on the existing move to register SIL and Platform Providers from 1 July, with broader expansion expected from July 2027 and full implementation by the end of 2030.
At CareMaster, we understand that reforms like these create uncertainty, but they also highlight the importance of having the right systems, advice, and support in place. Our team is already across the announced changes and ready to help providers understand what’s ahead, strengthen compliance, and prepare for the transition with confidence.
We’ll continue to monitor developments closely and share clear, practical updates as more detail becomes available.
