This week we had the pleasure of sending two of our best, Bailey and Sean, out to connect the unconnected and support the people who do so much for our society.

They were down at the FarmX exhibition, chatting with Tasmanian farmers and producers about connectivity and what it takes to keep rural properties online.

Launtel travels to Halls Creek

“This was the most rewarding week I have ever experienced.” — Elliot

Last week, we had the honour of visiting the community of Halls Creek, WA, as part of NBN Australia’s First Nations community outreach program.

For Launtel, the most fulfilling part of the visit was seeing how much the experience meant to our representative, Elliot. After spending the week working closely with the community, he described it as the most rewarding week he had ever experienced.

Halls Creek is a long way from our home in Tasmania. Getting there meant a 12-hour drive from Darwin, travelling along roads with 130 km/h speed limits and passing giant termite mounds and magnificent boab trees. It was also seriously hot!

Throughout the week, Elliot appeared on local radio, hosted pop-up sessions at the local IGA and joined the main community event alongside the nbn Local team.

He helped residents check which nbn services were available at their homes, resolved address and connection issues, assisted customers with signing up and handed out routers. In some cases, he even visited customers’ homes to help get everything connected and working.

A huge thank you to Hailey Hardy, Tim Nicol and Che Cockatoo-Collins from nbn Local. Their local knowledge, relationships within the community and patience in finding the right outcome were invaluable. We were blown away by their work and care for the community.

Thank you also to Leann and the team at PRK Radio, John and the team at Jungarni-Jutiya, and (most importantly) the Halls Creek community for making us feel so welcome.

Halls Creek was the first of three community events for Launtel. We came away proud of what was achieved, grateful for everything we learned and we’re excited to carry those lessons into the next visit.
