We were proud to print these oversize prints for Paul Brown's excellent exhibition Colonies: The Geometric Sublime - Art That Makes Itself. If you are local to Ballina, NSW we highly recommend checking it out 🙌

Paul Brown is a fascinating artist and writer who has specialised in art, science & technology since the late 1960’s and computational & generative art since the mid 1970’s. His early work included creating large-scale lighting works for musicians and performance groups (like Meredith Monk, Music Electronica Viva, and Pink Floyd) and he has an international exhibition record dating to the late 1960’s that includes the creation of both permanent and temporary public artworks.

He has work in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, UK and the National Academy of Sciences, DC, USA and his work is represented in public, corporate and private collections in Australia, Asia, Europe, Russia and the USA. In 2023 he was awarded the ACM/SIGGRAPH Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digital Art.

This month we're proud to present Melbourne artist Nick Cowling as our May Featured Artist👏👏👏

Nick fuses Australiana with cyberpunk and dystopian aesthetics, creating a hyper-detailed world that imagines a gritty, futuristic Australian society on the edge of collapse.

We really enjoyed chatting to Nick about his influences and creative practise, and what's to come in the strange futures unfolding in his cyberpunk universe.

We recently had the privilege to digitally reproduce and print this stunning gold-leaf and coloured-pencil artwork by artist 👏👏👏

Titled 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥, Antoniette describes the piece as "A transformation, a shedding, not of something lost, but of something no longer needed.
She is releasing her mask, letting it fall away, because her true beauty was never something that needed to be worn or proven. It has always existed within her."

We are forever impressed by the gorgeous surrealistic botanical and anatomical art of .

Chloe usually creates digital art, but created some physical paintings to show people that her work was authentic and not created by AI (a question she receives often at markets), so we stepped in to help digitally reproduce some of her beautiful original paintings.

Chloe is also one of our Featured Artists from a few years back when she used to print with us. She's since bought her own Epson printer and personally creates all her prints herself.

Behind the scenes 👀

Here's one of our team carefully scanning a tapestry - we don't often have tapestries come through, but we enjoy the challenge and always get fantastic results.

We've scanned it all - we can digitally reproduce tapestries, lace bobbin and embroidery works, fabrics, silk fans, embroidered handkerchiefs, religious icons, stretched and loose canvas paintings, works on paper, fabrics, t-shirts, old documents and building plans, historical maps, and old photographs that need restoration.

The first steps with scanning with us typically goes like this:

🖼️ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘂𝘀: call or email us to tell us about the piece you want digitally reproduced, and we'll let you know if we can scan it and give you a ballpark quote.

🖼️ 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: book an in-person consultation and bring it into the studio where our Services Manager Blake with inspect your piece and go over the process with you.

🖼️ 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: We offer a RAW service and a Print Ready service. A RAW scan is less expensive with a fast turnaround, as this is a raw scan straight off the scanner with no additional editing. RAW scans do require further retouching to make the finished print file colour-accurate to your original, so we only recommend this if you already have crazy Photoshop skills.

A Print Ready scan includes the retouching work necessary to create a high quality, retouched file that, when printed, will look identical and entirely colour-accurate to your original. This includes an A4 print so you can check the printed results, and is our most popular service.

Our museum-grade scanner is also able to scan with both flat and relief lighting - meaning we can reproduce the dimensionality of your works (brush strokes, 3D embellishments etc.). Consumer scanners simply cannot do this.
